GDT Game 78: VS Detroit, Tuesday, April 4, 7PM EST

Being in the competitive mix is good for me with a cup at some point

You and I watched numerous cups
my son wants to see one, none of his favourite teams have won since 2017, and he is almost too young to remember the SF Giants 3 glorious wins. He enjoyed the spring of 2021.

It's been 30 years. I'm sure you've enjoyed a few seasons since. 2021 was by far the most enjoyable run we've had since 1993.
I want a sustained decade competitive run like the Blues , Hawks , Kings , Bruins where they were/are in the mix

Cups are gravy , but the bandaid dreaded middle shit has to go

Cant hope for a once a lifetime pandemic where a shit team gets in that never was going to make the playoffs

If you want your son to see a Habs Cup parade you need to support tanking for as long as it takes. Every time you cry for playoff appearances where they have no chance of advancing beyond a round, you set the proper rebuild and eventual championship run back another year.

As DEVO says "Duty now for the future!"

If Bergevin hadn't continually mortgaged the future for the present we wouldn't be in this mess. But the only way out of it is to put up with some suffering in the near to medium term. If it takes a decade then that's how long it takes.

I'm sure you would love being Edmonton 2006-2021 when one series was all they had or Buffalo etc. 1 championship hardly justifies fucking fans over for 15 yrs

Honestly, I may have appreciated 2021 more than even 1986 and 1993 (which I both remember but I was a bit young then) , not necessarily for the finals but just for coming back 3-1 against the Laffs.

We all do, but we can still enjoy a good playoff run when it happens.

1 championship is better than 30 years and counting
I've said it before but I prefer 20 years of playoffs and no championship over 1 championship and 19 years out of the playoffs.

Being Buffalo or Edmonton during those years must have been painful.

If the Oilers win the Cup this year no one will remember or care about 06-21. It will all have been worth it. Championships trump playoff appearances every time. Playoff appearances that don't result in championships are no different than missing the playoffs entirely. You're only arguing degrees of failure. Our 2021 run to the finals was, in the end, no different than the year before or the year after. It was ultimately just another failure. Another season down the tubes. It just took a little longer to happen is all. I've already forgotten it.

That is the dumbest post I think I've ever read. The one championship is the only thing that matters and it completely erases everything else. I'd gladly miss the playoffs for 19 years if it meant winning the Cup in year #20. Winning Cups is the raison d'etre for any team, not making the playoffs only to be eliminated. And if you construct a team who's goal is to make the playoffs rather than contend for a championship you will never see a championship. Victory or death. No half measures.

but if they don't win it all, you will have wasted your money..

btw which spring did you enjoy more 2021 or 2022...
I'm not an Oilers fan so it won't matter. I just want to soak up some atmosphere and see some high quality hockey without having a rooting interest in the outcome.

I enjoyed 21 more than 22 but I enjoyed 86 and 93 more than either of them. And I didn't enjoy 21 so much that it would be my ambition to only be that happy. I've been happier. Beating the Leafs in 21 was nice but it was nicer in 78 and 79 when we also won the Cup.
