GDT: Round 1, Game 2 Canes v. Devils 4/22 6:00

And the next question is does RBA ever put Koochie in to see where his heads at and if he can do anything, or just continue to trot Freddie out every game and wear him out if we go another round? Kind of a no win situation either way with the way Kooch finished the season
Koochie's confidence looked shot for the better part of the last month to six weeks of the season, I would keep him stapled to the bench unless you have to play him right now. An extra day of rest between games 2 and 3 will help Freddy as well.

Seems like I remember some of the locker room issues with Haula also involved bullying or otherwise dick-ish behavior toward Necas? Or maybe that was an apocryphal anecdote?

I remember something similar. I also recall that Brind’Amour made Haula a healthy scratch at one point and his wife shot off her mouth via Twitter (while they were at the beach??)which further cemented Haula’s departure.

Also props to KK, who has been very strong in both games.
I’ve liked KK’s play recently. He’s more present on the ice and more physical. Kotkaniemi’s game and play has improved since Necas was traded. I wonder if he was more tethered to getting Necas the puck rather playing the game. It just seems he’s playing with more confidence since the trade. May be my eye test, but I have liked his play recently.

Necas wasn't the only guy who had issues with Haula, so I didn't single that one out. He was pretty much out of friends by the time he left, put it that way.

Another question: When will Jankowski get a chance to play? Rosy has looked OK, but not great and I feel that Janky has more upside. Of course, when you're winning it's hard to make changes for changes sake. While the Devils played well last night, they're close to the Walking Dead with all of their injuries and we'll need more firepower if we face any other team. It would be nice to see more success from our top line (looking at you, Aho) and I think our 4th line could use a boost, too.
I heard last night from people who take everything Canes to extreme levels that Eric Robinson and his wife are expecting and the baby could come at any time now. It's quite possible Eric Robinson doesn't travel to NJ for these next 2 games and Jankowski draws in.

Hard to take Roslovic out...that Chatty goal in Game 1 was a direct result of his right handed faceoff win. I haven't heard any real chatter that we would consider benching Roslovic....really just the opposite give his playoff performance last season with the Rangers.

Back to the game for a minute ... gasp ...

I'm seeing a fair amount of anxiety from Canes fans after Game 2 and I honestly don't get it. Yeah, the Canes got out-played for the opening 10 minutes or so as Jersey came out with what I suspect is their best effort. They were committed to not getting worked in their D zone, so the forwards were super active in gapping up and they did a great job on the walls in their trap. Defensively, that's New Jersey's fastball and the Canes took about half a period to recalibrate. But eventually the Canes were back to dictating the pace and started to carve out chances. The 2nd period flipped the script pretty hard as the Canes kicked butt for long stretches. Go back and watch that sequence that led to Ghost's goal ... they just put the Devs in the blender for an entire shift until Ghost rolled down and found nobody much in front of him. And Markstrom was great overall, but he got shaky as heck from that point until the end of the period. The collected themselves before the 3rd, but it was never particularly close from there. Yeah, the Devs popped up with some chances here and there, but Carolina dominated possession and chance creation pretty significantly.

I guess winning an easy one left people thinking it would be 4 easy games? I mean, no. That's almost never a thing.

They aren't taking Roslovic out. He can slot up into the Top 9 on any line if needed and is a pretty important piece on that re-worked PP2. Maybe you draw Jankowski in for Robinson, but they do pretty much the same stuff. That's not the case with Roslovic.

IMO Janky is better defensively than Roslovic. And without last change, he’s going to see a steady diet of the top 2 lines. He’s also much better in the circle. So I can see that change for defensive purposes only.

It's no coincidence that Burns and Orlov were the pairing on the ice for Bratt's goal. They both had terrible turnovers that helped the Devils keep the puck in the Hurricanes zone for so dang long.

my feeling here is that Freddie plays until they lose. And even then he still plays unless his wheels completely come off.

both Svech and KK are better with Hall driving the bus on that line.

Probably because that kind of play may beat a team like the Devils but Tampa, Florida and Toronto? That's another story.
Maybe not Tampa after the way they played last night, but Florida and Toronto? Different story.

A concern for another day ... in fact, another about a month from now. It's pointless to do this sort of worrycasting IMO. And "that kind of play" is what exactly? One mediocre 10 minute stretch? Big freaking whoop

So you sacrifice offensive flexibility (on a team that ain't exactly got goals to spare) for a bit of defensive responsibility on the 4th line? I don't see it. And if Roddy keeps Roslovic on the 4th line, all he's gonna see is NJ's randos unless they get stuck on an icing or something.
