Optics are for media and fans. People wont stop tuning or or buying tickets if they extend Dubas and friends

Of course they’d hire someone worse and go backwards. First move of the new guy will be trading someone important, who likely would be Nylander. We lose that trade handily and then everything just implodes from there. If we don’t advance in some meaningful way this year, we’re probably doing some tear down in two years from now where Marner and Matty are the only survivors

Yeah I was in this boat of "fuck maybe they'll revert to a gudpro GM" before but after this years deadline, I'm not sure I'm there anymore. Kyle can go. I wouldn't cry.

They’d resign him and Marner and rebuild around them. I don’t think any of these guys would leave voluntarily. Anyway, it’s a doomsday scenario that I hope to avoid, but am fearful is en route the way things look. Dubas needs the team to overperform, or the other team to underperform, and just have some benchmark of improvement by advancing, but I’m afraid he’s going to need to get lucky for it to happen now.

acquiring Schenn, benching Lilly, dumping Sandin for... not much, pushing out Pierre, and generally doubling down on previous ideas that were shitty at the time and remain so now (i.e. giving Rielly a lug to play with, so long as he cross checks forcefully enough)

From all reports they are pretty tight and I recall Mirtle discussing their relationship factoring in on his probability of extending.

We all know Arizona is not a threat but its hard to other big name teams in the US not lining up to sign him if the opportunity presents itself
