GDT: Stanley Cup Final Game 5 Canes v. Vegas 6/11 8:00

I missed Karlsson’s injury— just saw him in the bench in pain. Any one see it? What happened?
Yeah, it wasn’t a huge hit or anything. Just awkward contact. Looked like a hand/wrist/lower arm thing and it sounds like he broke his wrist. Karlsson has had terrible injury luck this season. The last couple of seasons, really.

He’s a big miss for them, because he lets them shift Hertl to wing. When he plays center he gets absolutely caved in defensively and Carolina’s pace won’t make that any better. They also have to slot a grunt up the lines because all they have for skill options in reserve is whatever’s left of Reilly Smith and the ghost of Brandan Saad. Those guys can’t play Top 9 minutes anymore. At least it’s a home game so Vegas can pick their matchups a little more carefully. If Torts is going to stick with his super-line of Eichel centering Stone and Marner, it’s REALLY going to stress whatever he comes up with for that secondary scoring line and force Sissons into a pure checking role. That might work for one home game, but you don’t want to be doing that mess in a Game 7 on the road. Not sure he really gets enough from the super-line to make it worth the risk anyway.

Karlsson appears to catch his left arm against the boards during that hit. Smashed between his body and the red ledge. On the bench, he is holding his left arm on his lap. The trainer is trying to feel his wrist and slide his glove off, and he stops him. Then he gets up and leaves. Very much looks like a fractured ulna to me. That's my guess.

One thing I noticed on the rewatch this morning … Carolina got much more physical in Game 5. I think up until then, they were kind of bumping guys and finishing checks, looking mostly the normal strategic stuff. Last night they were throwing straight up hits a lot more, looking to knock guys around. Vegas did NOT like it and that McNabb penalty was absolutely due to the Canes getting up in his personal space and getting him angry. Blake joined the 4th line, Walker and Svech in the chirping too. That’s something to watch for Game 6

I noticed that too. I think the boys sense worn out legs with the Vegas players.

While the Rialto has been dishing out great messages on its Marquee, owner Hayes Permar is feeling pretty good about one particular player:
