It's definitely great to keep it rolling, but as Carlyle put it in the post-game, we'll take the 2 points but there are a LOT of thing that need to be worked on because we have been playing worse and worse despite continuing to win ...
- Bernier called it 'the worst game we've played since (the 9-2 loss to the Preds)' ... I dunno if that's a team evaluation or self-eval as well
- In fact, bernier has been very average through the winning streak. In fact his 1st period SV% has improved, which was his biggest problem earlier in the season - giving up early lead on extremely soft goals
- Our shots against has quickly crept up to unacceptable level again ... we allowed 38 shots last night, including 15 in the 1st period alone
- Kadri has been playing very well this season, and has been playing a very complete game the last month or so, so glad to see him finally getting a 3 points night, and breaking that goose egg in PP points as well
- I DON'T like the new PP "diamond" structure where we play 1 Dman (Dion) at the point. Last night we yet again gave up a 2 on 1 when Kadri's pass was intercepted. The blueline is WAY too wide for 1 dman to cover and this is the 2nd game in a row when we gave up an oddman rush on PP. Good thing DAL couldn't capitalize on it or else it could have been a different game (would make it 1-1 at that point)
- Gardiner continues to suck and that is some cause for concern. This is past the quarter mark now and Gardiner still plays like crap.
- Holland's defensive play has been slipping as well. Though the team's been winning, Holland's been a minus in 4 of the past 6 games, and picking up only 1 point along the way as well. Leafs continue to get depth offensive support but Holland's not been part of that.
- Getting Lupul back has sure helped our offense, but what's the most impressive during this run has been the offensive depth. 12 different Leafs have scored during the 4-0-1 run, and only 1G by Kessel during this span. If Kessel was to go into a 'dryspell' like this last season, I Don't think we'd have gone 4-0-1.
- In a game where we built the lead early, the 4th line still only got ~ 5 min of icetime. 3rd line got ~ 10 min, 2nd gets ~ 15 min and 1st line gets 21 min. Carlyle's still very much a top line heavy kinda coach, despite his 2nd line has been the best line over the past 10 or so games in ES.
- With Polak out, Phaneuf continues to get a lionshare of icetime, playing over 26 min again last night. Holzer, surprisingly, got the 3rd highest icetime among dmen at almost 19 min.
- Kessel had 6SOG's, 1G and was even. Seguin, OTOH, also had 6SOG, but was held pointless and was -3 (though it's benn's sloppy defense that was the problem, not so much Seguin's)
Now bring on the Devils ... hope we tighten up our game or else the trend of losing to bad teams will continue
