Big story: The Ducks will look to get back into the series after dropping the first two games on home ice vs. LA. Though they've outshot and outhit the Kings through two games, a lack of quality scoring chances and rebound opportunities has them in a hole leading into Games 3 and 4 at Staples Center.


Team Scope:


Ducks: Coach Bruce Boudreau said he tried to get forwards Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry away from LA's top line because "they were dominating" after Game 2, but Boudreau the day before Game 3 defended his stars and suggested others need to do more.


"It's not totally reliant on them," Boudreau said. "But when you lose and you don't score goals, people start asking, 'What about Perry and Getzlaf?" There's other guys on the team. I can only say they're trying as hard as they can and they want to win more than anybody. Their attitude is great. The reason they're great players is because they're ultra-competitive."


Anaheim is hoping to build off a spirited and focused practice on Wednesday afternoon. “We’re very excited for [Game 3],” said forward Patrick Maroon. “They took two from us, but we believe in here. We strongly believe we can take one there, and even two. We need to focus on tomorrow. Once we get the first one out of the way, we’ll get the second one out of the way.”


Adds Boudreau, “They never quit. They believe in themselves. There have been so many times when we’ve been behind the eight ball and come back.”


Kings: Depth scoring has not been a problem of late for LA, and the play of rookie forwards Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli is a big reason for that. They have added speed and skill to a lineup that already had a collection of players with Stanley Cup-winning experience. They've proven they are ready to compete at this level.


"When they dress we expect them to play as much as everybody else," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "If they are playing as well, then they do. If they aren't, then they don't. It's no different than any other player. As playoffs go along, and just the way it works, it is a harder game. You're not going to have guys ... we were very fortunate to win [Game 1] in overtime, to be quite honest because we had to use a short bench. Some guys weren't up to standard. We were very fortunate. Some guys played too much and some didn't play enough. All you need to do is look at ice times at the end of the game and you know on our team pretty much how guys are playing because we expect them to perform."


Who's hot: Getzlaf has an assist on the three Anaheim goals. … Kings defenseman Alec Martinez scored one goal in his first 40 playoff games; he has one in each of the past two. Martinez has seen a significant increase in his playing time with veteran defensemen out of the lineup.


Injury report: Ducks defenseman Stephane Robidas broke his right leg in the first round against the Dallas Stars and is gone for the playoffs. … Kings defensemen Robyn Regehr and Willie Mitchell did not practice Wednesday because of undisclosed injuries.
