Habs acquire Zack Bolduc for Logan Mailloux

Upfront disclaimer: I am very biased re: Chris Boucher

I think Boucher’s contributions from amateur & pro player procurement is going unnoticed. I suspect he had a lot to do with Bolduc vs Mailloux acquisition

The key was finding a partner that still valued Mailloux highly. There is bigger risk from the Blues' perspective, but if Mailloux can establish himself in the NHL, they'll be happy. For us it's a slam dunk, Mailloux was expendable and we get a really solid young player.

Dobson + Bolduc for 2 picks, Heineman and Mailloux is just FUCKEN beautiful work.
fixed

Is Boucher our version of the nerdy stats analysis guru

Bingo and much harder to get value when a player is still stuck on a depth chart 4 years post draft

The evaluation metrics between the Romanov-Kirby and the Mailloux-Bolduc deal are from the same scale.

Higher ceiling with higher risk forward (Dach) for the more established, solid, and lower risk D (Romy).

Vs

More established, solid, lower risk F (Bolduc) for higher ceiling and higher risk D (Mailloux).

Higher risk and higher reward for lower risk and lower ceiling.

I know I am stating the obvious, but it just had to be noted.

the bottom line for me is these moves were not patch bandaids for aging vets

these are planned moves hoping for a young piece to work with in the retool

Previous regimes would have moved Mailloux for Cal Clutterbuck

I don’t see how Mailloux is higher ceiling than Bolduc. He has a lower floor than Bolduc.

There is a positional argument where a top 4 RHD is more valuable than a top 6 W, but if both players do reach those ceilings, I couldn't care less. And yes floor is lower for Mailloux. One is an NHLer, the other is not yet.

I absolutely love the work. I’m high on Bolduc and even drafted him on my legacy fantasy team two years ago. I know Mailloux has talent but we essentially traded the 31st pick in 21 for the 17th pick in 21.

Bolduc is a gamer and will surprise many. I just hope Marty is smart enough to use him in the bumper position on the PP. Bolduc thrives in the dirty areas. Tough kid that doesn’t shy away from the physical play.

I thank Sal for the case of Rose he sent to St. Louis to facilitate this trade. It’s a steal.

I do not agree that Mailloux has a higher ceiling than Bolduc.

I think he's a lock for bumper spot on PP2.

Habs are the youngest team in the league. Not making the playoffs, while disappointing, would not be so tragic. They still need to learn a lot.

For me a lot hinges on Reinbacher and his progression. I’ve seen people here pair Hutson with Carrier and I don’t see that working. Carrier will need to be with Matheson to spell 8’s brain farts.

To start I put Guhle with Reinbacher and Hutson with Dobson. I don’t know if people realize this but Dobson is 6’4”.

I want Hutson and Dobson apart so they can QB our team for 48 mins/game

I get that but if you pair Hutson with Guhle you have Hutson playing on the off side.

Only other realistic option is Hutson with Matheson but I don’t want Matheson logging all those minutes.

Hutson with Reinbacher is the right combination but that won’t manifest quickly I don’t think.

Yeah. It’s not going to be ideal until Reinbacher grows into a second pairing role
