Habs News & Notes: Regular Season 2019-2020

If they start the new season in January, I’m not expecting a full 82 game season. At some point they will have to get back to a September start date.

7 CDN teams, so 6 opponents x 8 = 48 game season

or 6 x 7 = 42

42 games also works well for 8 team divisions
 
Bergy really spending his off-season concentrating on defense....French coaches/management really love their defensive schemes...

Hopefully he finds time to inquire about wingers
 
The highest paid forward on the Habs is Drouin at $5.5m. Think about that for a second. I find it pretty shocking, a complete disregard for scoring.

Therrien, Julien, Martin, Vigneault...and Lemaire before them......all defensive-minded coaches....most French coaches are....which leads to Habs having this stupid mentality of building from the net out, and as Habsy said, a complete disregard for scoring

That’s mostly a function of Gallagher being a bargain under the contract he signed 5 years ago,

Its mostly because we have no forwards to pay and cant draft for shit

If Nick and KK take off they will get paid

We would gladly pay elite talent talent if we had them
 
Marc-Antoine Godin is reporting that Caufield will be returning to Wisconsin this upcoming season.
 
He's never had to worry about his job security before.

If his team misses the playoffs again, he might be out on his ass.

It's always easy to preach "future, young players, draft & develop, etc" when you have time on your side. But now that time's running out, yeah fuck this future shit.
 
As much as I like Cole Caufield . . . if he helps get me Laine (depending on what else it would cost), I think I's consider it. Is Danault, Caufield and our first round pick too much for a 22 year old Laine? I think the Jets would make that trade.

Jets would take that trade .

Gives them the C they desperately need and future youth with a potential scorer in CC

Habs wont make this trade , as much as Laine would be our best sniper since Richer .

I don’t unless maybe if Suzuki/KK replace Domi/Danault and one of Fleury/Juulsen is added on as the asset - Chevaldayoff can’t afford anything less than a grand slam for Laine. I expect some team (IMO Canes) will eventually cry Uncle and offer up Trotchek + Pesce + 1st

The package for Laine will need to be a combo of long term digestible contract + age + addressing 2C AND top-4 D (preferably RD)
 
Trocheck maybe but the Canes won't trade Pesce and their first this year. They already have a world-class sniper in Svechnikov and I seriously doubt they move their D.

There are rumors floating that a deal for Laine was almost completed last night to an Eastern Conference team. I wonder if it was Bergevin.

Personally I think Domi, Mete and their first is fair. If need be throw in a 3rd next year or something.
