Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Not sure HuGo view adding 3rd / 4th rounders as value add over maintaining team chemistry & letting Savard walk as UFA
I think he'll get a second and if he does he's gone. Likely a 26 or 27 second rounder.

I agree if the return is underwhelming he stays but D depth is always valuable at deadline.

Plus treating Savard “right” (re: family) is a good advertising for UFAs down the road.
They could always resign him in the summer. They won't but they could.

Also, how's letting him walk 8 weeks later any different? I don't subscribe to this as a factor. An underwhelming return I can understand.

They're winning without Savard. Carrier made him expendable so I think he's gone regardless of standings.
Not really. Carrier has been complimentary to Savard, allowing a vet on each pairings. Without Savard, it’s Struble and no D depth. Savard was playing 17-18 minutes a game, Struble has been playing like 11.

If we’re in a playoff spot or close to one, he stays. Plus he’s been such a warrior for the team the past 4 years, i don’t think the locker room would take it too well. It would take a first rounder to make Hughes think twice about it.

We're not going to make any big moves, but we might not be selling much either. We'll see where we are in two months.
Stay the course and continue the rebuild

The " da mix " means nothing in the grand scheme of things

Keep selling if the offers are right and dont add depth ,Habs have all the depth they need

Most of these UFA `s have no future with us and cant be foolish to turn down a good offer

Not playing Struble won't help him improve but there's no reason to keep Savard if the return is reasonable. This is not a cup team.

Savard is gone with any reasonable offer , locker room will survive

I'm enjoying the push to the playoffs. But I have to remind myself I don't want the Habs of the pre covid decade. I want a team that has a legit chance at the cup.

I see no trades other than a depth F to eat popcorn (replace Pez) and MAYBE a backup vet goalie in exchange for Primo.

The playoff push is real and assets will not be sold off

They won’t jeopardize a potential playoff run (even if just one round) for a couple of picks, unless maybe first rounders. We already have 9 picks in the first 4 rounds this year.

We’ll see how the next two months play out.

I could see a scenario where Savard gets traded but it’s part of a larger trade to improve the current roster and not just accumulate picks.
