Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Almost no chance. HuGo have demonstrated that they value narratives like the one Hage has, assuming of course, that you have the talent, which he does. They are the antithesis of MB: “If you want loyalty, get a dog.”
He's the sum of Lehkonen and Monahan. Hage and Carrier.

GSaE is a pig in a poke. Not very indicative of good goaltending as it factors in hand where teams shoot from everywhere along with the HDSC.

When a goalie let's in a muffin or two then "wakes up" to save some good opportunities, it doesn't mean he played a great game.

To be a great goalie you need to make the routine saves and the hard ones. Sam makes some great saves sure but then deflates his team baking muffins from 35 feet out.

In other words, he's not consistent.

GSaX is one of the best stat for goaltender as shots are weighted based on their chance to score from where it was taken. Much superior to save%, GAA, etc. Like all stats it's not perfect but I don't think there is a better one for goaltender out there.

All goalies give up muffins, and it factors in as it decreases the GSAx.

By your logic then Montembeault should be extended and given just below vezina goalie level money.

Are you following the disconnect here?

How is that? It’s a stat and that post used a time range that was favorable to their argument. Also it’s not a rate stat so goalies that play more will have a bigger score.

The fact they compare him to vezina winners that actually win and have better save percentages doesn't flag the stat for you?

Agree to disagree. Montembeault is the epitome of average and pushing an agenda based on a flawed stat doesn't work for me. He is what he is and is better served as a backup.

I said I liked the stat, but not the way it’s used here in this argument, and thought I explained why. The thing is volume, Sam has the highest xGA in the league, because news flash, our defense sucks. He does face a lot of tough shots and does make a lot of tough saves, so I’m not surprised to see him up there in GSAx. But Î’d prefer to look at GSAx/60 minutes because high volume goalers will have high stats.
