Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

But in order for them to win they would first need to do something different than they've done for the past 8 years. Have they done that? Nope. They're doing what they always do: run it back with the same core group hoping that the result will be different this time.

It won't be.

The underachieving stars will continue underachieving, the dressing room cancers will continue being cancerous, the mediocre defensive zone play will still be mediocre, and the non-clutch goaltending will continue not being clutch.

The reason why the Leafs never win is because they can never admit to themselves what they are. They have this need to believe that they are better than they actually are and that's what trips them up every time.

What they need to do is accept the reality that they will never win with this core and take a sledgehammer to it. When Marner inevitably demands the moon and the stars next summer, tell him to have a nice life and hang up the phone. Replace him with someone who isnt a sniveling little bitch when times get tough.

Keep 34 and 88. Push 91 down to the 3rd line and spend your money on a winger with some balls and a 2nd line center who is tough to play against. Then overhaul the blue line and hope that Woll becomes something. But if 16 is still part of the plan and your blue line gets turnstiled on the regular, nothing is changing.

Wouldn't be the first hab you disliked though. The point, again, is it really isn't as hard as they make it out to be. It's personal preference that makes it hard.

I'm seeing a lot of revisionist history regarding PLD lately and I'm not sure why. I get that he's having a good season but how many years did his previous employers wait for him to do what he inly started doing now? His entire career prior to this one has been very "mid", and often it hasn't even been that good. Beyond that he has been a "difficult" player to manage.

But the one thing he has managed to do consistently is tease GM's just enough to get some really nice contracts out of them, and only now is he finally earning it.

I'm with Alan. I do not trust this player.

Yup. Reasons. But don't tell me it's hard to find a center. You are either willing to deal with reasons or you aren't.

In business there's plenty of deals with hair on it.
There's no excuse for HuGo not to be able to address this need by the time Demidov arrives. If they give Dach another chance they'd better have a Plan B ready.

Dach is at best PLAN B for whomever they get to fill 2C next year. Even that's a stretch....if he sticks around it'll be on the wing

I'm hoping that they can trade Laine at deadline next year, with some retention, for a good package of a first plus an nhl ready prospect. The hope is Laine actually tries in a contract year. If he does well you move him anyway because he'll just flake out again after a new contract is signed.

Except if the Habs are in da mix ™️ and Laine is cooking.

Then Laine will be the rental the Habs need.
