Habs Season Thread: Offseason 2025

The first paragraph of that article was classic Red Fisher. Also, looking at that first round there were a lot of big busts. Scott Thornton was one of the “better” picks, LOL. As I said, NHL amateur scouting is way better today. I’m guessing analytics and video play a big role in the improvement of first round pick success rates today compared to 35 years ago.

We didn’t miss on much in the players drafted after in the first round, Kevin Haller being the best skater of the lot.

But Detroit made out like bandits with Lidstrom and Fedorov in the 3rd and 4th round.
True story, Det GM Develanno gave strict orders to make sure no scout was seen watching Lidstrom that draft season & told his agent to make sure he was not to attend the draft in person

Kapanen has his good points but unless we're investing in a very robust winger like Will Cuylle he wont work as a 2C on a team that already needs more size.

Renaud Lavoie pissed on McCagg's Kapanen take from a great height, prompting the usual passive aggressive response from thin-skinned Grant. Then McCagg says that he's never met Lavoie, either in person or online, but refers to him as a "colleague", lol. Fucking delusional.

Kapanen has talent, you could see it. What he needs is time to acclimate to the NA game and that won’t be quick. 2-3 years he’ll be a very useful player.
I think he’ll established himself in the NHL faster than that. Made the team out of training camp last year, played uneventful 18 games, then went on to almost a PPG season in SEL, 3 more playoff games with us, 1 point, then 6 points in 11 playoff games with Laval. He plays a simple game that doesn’t require too much adjustment in NA. I think he finishes the season with us after starting in Laval.
