I was watching when he answered Grant's question on his podcast as to whether he would have liked the Habs to drafted Cole too. He said it's because you can't have two d-men that small on the same team in today's NHL. I don't think it was about money.

Anyways. Enough of th Hutson contract talk. Bellyaching since the summer is kind of ridiculous. The team holds all the cards. They have Egstrom and Dobson to run the PP if needed next year. Hutson cannot get an OS. So…
The team’s play so far it’s obviously much better than it was at this time last year. Some things to work on like the power-play and zone breakouts, but much better coverage in the D zone at critical times.

They're going to get criticized at times, but the pairing of Matheson-Dobson is a game changer for us, they've been controlling the play almost every shift. Being able to put that pair and Guhle-Huston on the ice for 45 minutes a game is huge.

But how is playoffs on the top pair going to cut back on Matheson's minutes?
Yeah, I've always noticed that Matheson's main weaknesses are his bad pinches and generally overhandling the puck, not his defensive zone coverage. If he's paired with someone like Dobson who can carry the puck just as well, it limits his ability to make brain farts.

Matheson is a good defenseman who’s been asked to do too much in recent years. He’s now in a position to be able to just do his job. He looked great in the first three games so far not having to babysit a rookie next to him. Dobson will get criticized too because he’s similar to Matheson but he’s been quietly effective.
