Habs Season Thread: Summer 2026

They were all pretty team friendly.
Nick and Cole signed in a flat cap world out of covid , very fair.

Slaf was close to being labelled a bust after 3 seasons and no real improvement.

7+ is more than fair. Dobes got a solid deal with 1 real season of proving himself.

Habs lucked out that Demi and Hutson still had a year on their ELC with no option of an offer sheet and the cap yet to really take off.

Even with the flat cap Suzuki was < 10%

So that was team friendly even in that context, forget about now. Other teams typically give 12% to their top player, and sometimes more.

It can be fair and team friendly. The fact that they all took 8 years deal is what makes it friendly.

#1 pick and still stuck at 50 points after 3 years ...your close to bust status
in a redraft, he probably goes #3 or 4....that's definitely not a bust....even if he goes #5 in a redraft, it's not a bust

someone his age playing 1st line duties on a team that made the ECF is not a bust.....besides, he was not overhyped leading to the draft. Expectations were not that high for the 2022 draft year, people were already looking ahead to the Bedard draft of 2024

Slaf would go 2 or 3 in a redraft, no lower. Hutson would go first, then Slaf or Cooley. Either way, the Habs killed it that draft, obviously.

From a production standpoint only you expect more after year 3 but he wasnt improving at all , he was lost many nights

He was a project that needed time to adjust and yes there was no hype

He was 20 years old in his 3rd year. Unless you're a stud and mature as a player, even #1 overall picks normally take about 4 years to really establish themselves. Hell it took MacKinnon 5 years.
