I have no special insight but the basics are:

Twitter has been a classic underperformer. Never had a competent CEO.

Free Speech is important to him

I mean, I guess it's an underperformer....but I'm not sure how you monetize it without ruining it. The twitter base is their because it's not Facebook. Start to treat user data like Facebook treats theirs, and there will be an exodus of users. Without subscriptions (lol), I don't see the monetization path that justifies the valuations (nevermind Elon's overpay).

Twitter is absolutely ripe for a competitor to eat it's lunch if the business model is altered significantly enough in a way the user base deems negative.

The ELI5 version is easy. Elon really doesn't understand what freedom of speech is as a concept and has too much money. This is an oligarch's vanity project.

All true...but tons of people (including many intelligent ones) have been betting against Elon since Tesla was trading at $10/share (split adjusted)

there's so much they can try to do...seriously, the company has been run by a string of half assed CEOs...which is testament to the potential of the platform
