Why did HC have a secret legal slush fund to pay off women who were rapes by their players? Why, during the trial, did the accused participate in a group chat in order to "get their stories straight"?

Acquittal or not everyone knows they did it and are guilty as fuck. Any NHL team that offers any one of them a contract should be dragged.
you don't understand the legal system, leave that to the experts in law. You don't have a LL.B or a J.D. so you should just obey the decision of a court and not comment. A female justice with years of experience found that the complainant was not credible nor believable. You have no law degree nor experience, you need to accept the ruling from your intellectual superior.

It's smart to say it in order to protect teams in tax free states that are Bettman's favorites. He knows it's a lie. The only people who care about that are fans in Canada, who Bettman has never given a shit about.
in fairness to Gary, take Florida, great state to live in, great weather, great infrastructure and no state income tax. However, you do pay tolls on highways which can add up. Hell I paid $17.00 in tolls for 2 days so there are other costs to living there. That said, if I could practice there, I would move there tomorrow. I'm just too old to pull up stakes and go to Florida.

You're arguing legal x's and o's. The Court of Public Opinion doesn't give a shit about that stuff. They know that an acquittal doesn't mean they're innocent but merely not guilty because of legal technicalities. And they will hound these players and any team dumb enough to sign any of them.

The KHL is the best place for them. In Russia, criminality is practically a prerequisite.

Florida is for old people. You should definitely move. You're basically MAGA already.

We have the toll 407 highway in the GTA

$ 17 gets me 15 km

I took it one day nearly end to end to and from a medical appointment $ 105

My buddy spends $ 10k a year on the 407 , its this or commute an extra 20 hours a week in traffic

true. We had a tolled bridge here and some would spend an extra 30 minutes to avoid it where I said, fuck it, it is only $5.00 and my hourly rate at the time was $400. My time is valuable

This year at WDW, I paid more for premier lightning lane to jump the line than my actual park tickets. While you can argue that it was wasted money, I didn't have to run from ride to ride, I didn't have to look at my phone for line lengths and just flashed my magic band, and voila, I was on the ride. There is a price to be paid for convenience.

You are also right, when they have tolls, you have a choice to use the road or not.

there was no legal technicality here, the judge found the complainant not to be credible

Tolls are user fees instead of using general taxes, which are paid by a lot of people who don’t commute in the municipality of interest or own a car.

Do the players have grounds for a civil suit? i.e. disrupted careers and lost income?
I would imagine that prosecutors in Canada, like in the U.S., have some immunity for decisions to prosecute, as without it, they might be become overly gun-shy. It would also be hard to prove. Finally, if they sue, they will have to re-litigate the entire incident. Not happening.

The judge also said that it was not the role of the courts to weigh in on morality. And that's it in a nutshell.
