Bob Newhart died today, age 94. Great, understated comedian whose two CBS shows (with ensemble casts) were brilliant in the low-key approach.

Somehow I missed that on Wednesday, Kobe Bryant's dad Joe "Jellybean" Bryant passed away at 69. He'd suffered a massive stroke awhile ago.

Abdul "Duke" Fakir, last surviving original member of The Four Tops passed away. He was 88.

Meant to post this the other day: Sven Goran Erickson, successful soccer manager who perhaps underachieved when England's manager, passed away at 76. So happy that last spring, he got to coach Liverpool legends in a legends match at Anfield. He was a lifelong Reds supporter.

Over the weekend, former Premier League and Ivory Coast team player Sol Bamba passed away from non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Always an infectious personality who seemed to forever enjoy the game and life in general.

Over the weekend, Ed Kranepool died. He was one of the original '62 Mets and a part of the heroes of '69, the so-called "Miracle Mets". He was 79.

Chad McQueen ("Dutch" in Karate Kid), actor, racing enthusiast (NASCAR, off-road, motocross) and son of legendary actor Steve McQueen passed away on Wednesday as well of "massive organ failure". He was 63 (damn, he was just 6 1/2 months older than me).

Another member of the Jackson 5 has passed on as Tito Jackson passed away yesterday. He was 70.
