is there any way to corroborate this?

Clarkson's 15 point pace over 82 games is the lowest single season ppg by an NHL forward earning $5m or more?

Capgeek has salary charts going back a bunch of years. Would be a fair amount of leg work to prove something already know, that he's a waste of money on a historic level, but if you're interested, just go as far back as they have data for.

I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, he is. I'll go further and say that his point pace would rank among the worst 5+ million dollar defenders ever as well.

i went from the early 90s until 08-09... and yeah, the lowest over that period. but it seems that you can only see top 50 salaries and there are now more than 50 5mn guys.

for context... the only other nearly-as-awful contract i can think of, on a guy who had a shit career then one or two fluke years and cashed in hard, was lapointe's... and even he never had a year (during hte term of that deal) as bad as clarkson's season.

But Gauthier/Gainey gave up McDonagh for Gomez. That in itself makes it one of the worst trades in NHL history.

not talking about trades here. just wondering if a player making 5+ mn has ever played at a 15 point pace. the answer seems to be no.

It really is a contract so bad that it's an instant fire worthy offence imo. Any other industry, if you make that colossal a mistake with 30+ million dollars, you're let go because it's clear that your judgement can't be trusted to make similar decisions in the future. Hoping that Timmy L shares my sentiment.

What's a 50 game slump between members of the old boys club?

Well, totally agree. But wasnt it Timmy L that signed Nonis to a 5 year extension just last year in the first place?

Thats where we are out of luck because no way Timmy L is going to fire a guy he just signed even after he committed one of the worst FA mistakes in recent memory.
