Ivan Demidov - Montreal Canadien

The more I watched of this kid while putting my list together, the more I liked him. The caveats were injury history and weak MHL competition. We'll know for sure what exactly we have, when he suits-up in the KHL next year. Super high skill, obviously. But compared to Michkov, who I watched a lot of last year, he's a more complete 200ft player. Michkov at this point is an offensive zone player most nights. And considering the story below, it all falls into place why we passed on Matvei but were all over Demidov:

He needs to start working with our skating coaches to adjust his skating style so he isn't on the IR all the time. I looked into his style and found it's called the 10&2. In one form or another, other famous players with that style were: Bobby Orr, Saku Koivu and Pavel Bure. And besides having that in common, unfortunately, they also have in common a history of leg injuries. I'm sure our staff is very aware of this. That open stance with knees wide and exposed, can be very risky. So hopefully they find a way to mitigate without messing with his effectiveness.

I'd still love to have Michkov AND Demidov... but c'est la vie.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Demidov. He definitely has the highest ceiling of any player we've drafted in decades. There's certainly a realistic bust factor given the strength of competition and injuries. As has been said, we'll get a much clearer picture when we see how he looks against men in the KHL next season.

PS I 100% wanted us to draft him and would have been livid if we'd passed on him.

Demidov has played center. And with his growth to over 6 ft and added weight, can you imagine a line of?:

Slaf LW
Demidov C
Michkov RW

Slaf and Demidov have awesome vision and are elite passers. And Michkovs shot is in Bedard territory. They'd be 100pts+ all three of them, IMO.

Dont like both on our team

Given all the intel Bobrov had on Michkov and Demidov, there is good reasons we passed on Michkov. Demidov will be the better of the two, that’s my fearless prediction.
This regime checks every box and covers every angle

There is no fucken way they by pass him if there were no red flags on character , family BS , defensive game etc.....

Our fucken director`s dad has more insight than anyone .....
