I have to admit, I didn't think I would be almost 50 and still not have see another win. I was 26 when we won this Cup.

I can still remember the day. I had a new job so I could not leave early to go home and watch so I was listening on SRC radio at the office. I left after the first period, walked to the train, heard the Kings tie it, lost the signal in the tunnel, then came out to hear we were back on top.

My future wife said that night she heard guys walking in her neighbourhood yelling go habs go after we had won etc

Hopefully my son gets to to witness a Stanley Cup win in his lifetime. It is a feeling of pure satisfaction.

I remember that playoff year very vividly. I remember going down 2-0 to the Nodicks and having people tell me we were done. I told one guy in the courthouse, we will win the series. I was at Contessa's place for a number of the Saturday games, and she didn't quite understand why I was so excited and couldn't sit down during the 3rd period of game 4 against Nodicks, why I was jumping around so much after game 3 of the LA series. Wearing my jersey around town all playoffs. Ah those were the days.

Paul DiPietro. That playoff year's Connor Sheary/Brian Rust. Sure you need your best players to be your best players but you also need someone not counted on to come out of the blue and step up. David Volek too. My favorite Islander ever.

Montreal was crazy....

i remember La Presse had nice cartoons/caricatures of the Habs after each series....loved those....still have all the La Presse journals from the morning after each game....I still look at them each year with nostalgic eyes

true,

Lebeau had a great playoff too including the double overtime winner in game 2 against the Islanders.

Not to mention how well Desjardins played in the Nordiques series when Schneider was out (and of course his hattrick in game 2 of the Final).

I just remember going out after the game (it was still early in BC) and walking up and down Robson Street wearing my jersey and making Canucks fan eat $hit

It's no fun unless you can make someone else suffer, after all.

Lebeau didn't come out of nowhere though, He was the 4th leading scorer on the team in the regular season, and had 31 goals and 80 points

DiPietro who only played 29 regular season games, then had 13 points in 17 playoff games was a bigger surprise.

heheheh, yeah making CanuckFan eat shit is always a good thing (of course now it is hard to find any in this city)

I remember my dad saying "habs are toast" after going down 0-2 to Nords.

He was always as negative about the habs as WeHave.

Roy didn't look very good in those opening losses vs Nords

that Gilbert Dionne penalty when it was 2-0 was brutal.

Brian Bellows fanned on an open net in overtime that would have won it. Young's OT goal was brutal as was Sakic's tying goal

Unfortunately it will be quite a bit longer until we see the next one. I was 14 and wasn't that big of a hockey fan yet, maybe it's because my dad wasn't and I couldn't get to watch too much hockey on tv.

Those were great memories , I took the day off hoped on the train and watched the game at my buddy's place in LaSalle.

He had about 10 buds on his street over and we were in tears of joy after wining the cup , the city went ape shit .

Too bad we aren't close to a cup now but let's keep the faith it happens one day .

We taped the game and kept re-watching it for weeks.....

Yes i know, weird.......but not really
