that is like just investing in an ETF probably does better than trying to pick the right stocks

I think so, I read a recent article on NHLe, which pretty much gives a comparable metric regardless of leagues, and it was still true.

Only works for offensive players but those are the hardest to find anyway.

Agreed...But slightly less agree these days. SPY was once the vehicle of choice for diversification...not so much these days as 30% of the ETF is allocated to 6 tech stocks (Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Musk)

I see SPY more as the benchmark, rather than diversification. VTI is a bit better for diversification. But I don't think there is a single ETF that provides well balanced diversification, a collection of 10-12 ETFs would be better but I would still probably overweight on SPY/VTI and BRK for performance if I were to go ETFs only.
