He needed Primeau to play for a couple of reasons.
First and foremost, it was Primeau who is largely responsible for the Rocket finishing 1st overall. But more than that, since he had been recalled by the Habs when Monty was injured, Primeau went several days without playing. Had he not played on Sunday and the Rocket won, the first game of the second round wouldn't be starting until the middle of next week. That's way too long for a goalie to go without playing time.
