Laval Rocket Thread

For once going to a season we have solid goaltending across the org. It starts with Monty. Why does one ponder trading him now ?

In fact one considers resigning him next offseason to a Blackwood like contract or the Seattle dude (forget his name) while Fowler and Dobes feel their way through which could be 2 to 4 years.

Fowler is in the fast lane, his development is the priority, which does not necessarily mean he should be rushed to the NHL. I would definitely give him a full season in the AHL and think about bringing him in 26-27.
Jake Oettinger development path. AHL ATO right after sophomore year at BU. Then a full season in the AHL as the starter for the Texas Stars. Then Ben Bishop's backup in Dallas for a year, and then Dallas's starter the following year.

Jake O was exactly the example I was looking at when I made my post. Even the first year in Dallas he was splitting duties.

We still have Montembault on a team friendly deal for two years. He’s reliable when he isn’t overtaxed.

Fowler is the future, but I don’t see any reason to rush this. AHL next year, 30-35 games in 26-27.
Diekembe is a depreciating asset IMO, this is his peak value - combination of current AAV + contract term + completed seasons solid performance + age (29)

As Krusty has mentioned its highly probable the Habs regress due to a combination of youth inserted + teams around them improving.

Maximize return on Diekembe & Matheson, let Primeau & Dobes share G, allow Fowler to run with G in Laval.

Worst case scenario, Habs are in the running for McKenna…

Ice the best team possible.

Run with Tumbo.

Let Primeaudonna do what she needs to and go her own way.

Give the keys of laval to Fowler and the dude who was there with Primeaudonna.

They likely won’t regress enough for that but who knows, some Islanders like lottery luck could happen. They also won’t regress intentionally like that - trading Monty.

If things go right Monty gets traded next summer at the earliest or the latest will be before the 27 playoffs. I am not sure I would let Primeau play another Hab game, if he stumbles he may as well go play in Europe and there goes an asset. Trade him this summer while someone still would gamble on him, Dobes needs more grooming and he is not going to get that from Primeau. The point of next year is to be in the mix again without getting off track of the plan..

Even if Montembault attains peak value, what is the cost-benefit of a trade? Goalies are valued differently, and for now I’d think the risk is very much on the downside with our inexperienced goalies.

Maybe as part of a package for a transformative star, but that’s an X-box scenario.

The other thing is the injury and how it affects Monty's play going forward. Lower body injuries, as we saw with Price, can be career limiting. They can also change the way a goalie plays. You can't really expect to get much in trade for a guy who's been injured and hasn't yet shown that he's recovered all the way back to his previous form.

Diek isnt worth much in a trade and MM wont fetch what we could have received last summer

Without talented reinforcements the only possible regression is because of fewer career years and injuries

He should be a 45-50 game starter
