Leaf Rumours

if we collect enough second and third rounders, we could parlay them into a late first rounder.

ie 2nd for stajan (minimum) 2nd for Hagman, 3rd for Grabs, 2nd (minimum) for Poni Stemp 3rd.

put those two seconds for a first and those two thirds for a second and you have something.

I read recently, that 80% of the top two lines in the nhl came from the top 60 picks.

resign Stajan and Poni in the off season

Big ticket Kadri Kessel
Poni Stajan Armstrong
Stalberg Bozak Hanson
Orr Rosehill Blake

TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that there are whispers of a possible ”multi-player deal between Toronto and Dallas. Dreger did not specify names, but stated that there was one player in particular that Dallas GM Joe Nieuwendyk covets, that the deal would involve an aspect of cap relief for the Stars, but that the Leafs would be getting a draft pick for taking on the additional cap burden.

I checked some salaries that could be worth of being dumped and the only ones I see are Ribero and Erickson and Robidas and I can't see them getting rid of the first two.

Richards is playing well, Morrow is the captain and there is no way its Modano.

Would Burke go for a player like Ribero?

I'll tell you exactly who Niewy wants.

Ponikarovsky.

He had success playing with him while he was a Leaf, must like him, and sees him as a good UFA rental to provide Dallas with some size and scoring punch for a playoff push.

I guarantee it.

Well, before you spend too much time analyzing it, remember that Dreger is only slightly above Eklund in terms of credibility when it comes to reporting hockey rumours.

Looking at the stars roster, they really don't have any players that would offer cap relief after taking on Poni, unless you are talking about Ribeiro or Richards.

Or I guess Turco.

Turco makes sense. Dallas isn't going to keep him and it gives them the equivalent of $5 million to go get some help for a stretch drive to make the playoffs. Plus he sucks, so he isn't going to help them.

Thats a big salary though. That AND a player has got to be worth something good.

I say Richards.. and I like that deal...

Sure Richards is playing well, but Dallas is in a weird way. They are decent but they know they have nothing coming up.

A centre that could do well with Kessel..

I like it... would Dallas maybe want Hags back??

read the article again and noted it was a "multi player deal"

Poni and Stajan (Stajan and Niewy roomed together didn't they??) for Richards Turco and a pick

That's alot of salary coming back but some good players

I wonder if they'd swap Turco for Toskala.

Because they could then either demote Toskala, or have nearly $2mn extra to spend.

Unless Nieds ows Burke a HUGE favor, I dont see why they would even think of making the playoffs with the worst goalie in the league - even as backup.

It has nothing to do with Toskala.

It's that it looks like they want to ship out Turco and no playoff team can accommodate him. They either don't have the cap space or won't give up the equivalent because it would shake up the roster too much.

If they think Auld is just as capable as Turco then they might as well inject Turco's $5.7mn elsewhere in the lineup. They could even make a strong play on Kovalchuk if they really wanted to push for the playoffs.

But this has nothing to do with Toskala and everything to do with a nonexistent market for one of the highest paid goalies in the league.

Auld and Toskala in the playoffs? If they make it, thats a rough sell.

Turco might suck but I dont know how they can think about giving Alex Auld the ball because of a good stretch of games.
