Leaf Rumours

Whats your problem with 80 point, playmaking centers making only $5 million?

First of all, he's not one at the moment.

Second, he's exactly the kind of player we should have less of. A soft, smallish imp with zero character and a big salary.

Wasn't everyone just saying we should stop spending big dough on second line talents?

Ribiero is the epitome of a second line talent, if not necessarily in production (which is arguable) then in everything else for sure.

Whether he admits it or not, Burke is desperate at this point. Stajan for Ribeiro he'd do simply to add the offence we need to get more out of Kessel, who is producing points but isn't getting the puck where he needs to. Ribeiro is no saviour but he might be able to help us enough offensively that we can try to get out of the top 3 picks and be somewhat more respectable next year. If Kovalchuk and Marleau are out of the picture then we need to still spend that money on offensive punch. You throw Kadri in there and then grab Frolov as a free agent, you've got a respectable top 2 lines next season.

In: Ribeiro, Frolov(FA),Grier(FA),Stalberg, Kadri
Out: Stajan, Hagman, Stemp, Mayers, Toskala Grabo,Poni,Exelby, we should get several picks out of that group to restock the cupboard.

Stalberg-Ribeiro-Kessel
Frolov-Kadri-Blake
Kulemin-Bozak-Grier
Orr-Hanson-Rosehill/Mitchy
Rosehill/Mitchy

Kaberle-Komisarek
Beauch-White
Schenn-Gunnarsson
Finger

Gus
veteran FA who can give us at least average sv%

It's not a great team, we're still lacking size up front, but we have a decent top 2 lines plus what should be a better defensive 3rd line. Grier can really help our PK as well.

And if we're moving Kaberle, we need something really good back. None of this low first, non-star prospect and another meh pick stuff. We might as well just keep him.

Dont know if this was mentioned, but I was reading that the Leafs were offering Matty Stajan for Peter Mueller (they make the same money this year), but the Coyotes want a little more because of Stajan's UFA status.

That team makes we want to barf.

Ribiero will be our Gomez and have the Habs fans laughing at us all year next season.

Food for thought, 101.

Matt Stajan is on pace for 59 points this year.

Ribeiro is on pace for 63 points.

Matt Stajan, a home grown Leaf and Toronto boy, will re-sign for something like $3M probably.

Ribiero, a Quebecer, is signed for $5M per for another three years.

That bullshit draft pick is enough to get us to take on all that salary, bring on a characterless shit, and for a net difference of like 5 points??

Are Burke and Co. putting something in the water back home???

Only its not 5 points.

Ribeiro's 3 year splits are 79 points.

He's only one hot streak off his usual pace this year.

Food for thought, last year Ribeiro had 36 points in his first 43 games. Still finished at 80 points.

You're are selling this guy way short. Ridiculously short. He is a much better player than Stajan right now, and this is coming from a guy who is way higher on Stajan than you are.

Again, turn that calendar over to 2010.

Why should be take on the contract of an underperforming puke like him??

Are we the garbage dump of the NHL???

If everyone would wake up and go nuts over this shit, maybe they wouldn't do this to us or maybe they'd be run out of the ACC. But unfortunately, the torture will continue it seems.

My dream right now is for the fans to organize a boycott, even just for one game.

How amazing would it be to see the ACC empty for a whole game, and have Burke and Wilson chased out of town?

This is what my Leaf dreams have become. Tragic.

Turn the calander over to 2010 is the same logic that would have had Kaberle rushed out of town last year. Players can't be properly evaluated in half a season that was cut short due to injury.

Ribiero's 3 year splits are 24 goals and 79 points. You are too short sighted.

It's a very weak UFA forward crop.

The Leafs will probably to trade to substancially improve their team.

I still say go after Vinny. He's still a top 10 NHL centre.

So then why does Dallas do the trade?
