Leaf Rumours

Yikes. If people think the Schenn brothers are overrated they would be tearing their hair out once they saw Jordan Staal's 40 point prowess in action.

He's on pace for 55 points.

And people forget, he's still only 21 years old -- he's younger than Kessel.

He's a young, big, talented, versatile centre with 70-80 point potential imo.

In my previous anti Staal rantings I had mis-interpreted his Junior stats. So I'm no longer comfortable raining on his offensive upside....

if we were looking to trade Schenn, that's the type of player you trade him for imo.

Yeah, i'd make that trade....Staal would be a solid linemate for Kessel imo.

I'd love Jordan Staal. The guy is a PK machine and I think his offensive numbers would improve if he wasn't stuck playing behind Crosby and Malkin

Ponikarovsky can actually play when he tries. Well in fact. Still, having interacted with him, I would trade him for soiled underwear. U never going to win anything with half nuts like him.

I like Staal, but especially given Schenn's recent play, I'd try to pry Staal out of there without giving him up.

Grabo, Poni, Stajan, prospect (e.g., Blacker)
for
Staal, salary dump

They get three roster players (forwards) with only one signed beyond this season, which gives them great depth for the postseason, they also get a good prospect, and we take on bad salary of theirs (that doesn't last for longer than next season).

Such a misconception about me just because I'm passionate about my views.

I love watching the players I like, I love watching the team win. I can't stand when I see crap players on my team and I hate when we lose.

It's not a negative thing to be so disappointed with the majority of what we've witnessed this year. It's just a natural reaction to reality.

Relax, I wasnt poking fun at you. I was surprised that there are leaf fans out there that cant wait to watch the next leaf game.

If it wasn't for the play of Kaberle, Stempniak and Kadri in pre-season, I would be thorougly disgusted. And I am not really a Stempniak fan per se. I just salute how hard this guy has gone.

I can't stand watching guys like Schenn, he is a big disappointment for me.

There are a lot of positives for me:

Kessel, Kulemin, Stalberg, Bozak, Poni, Stajan, Kadri, Kabby, Komi, White, Gunnar, and yes, Schenn, and Gus.

But there are also a lot of worries for me:

Kessel's inconsistency, the UFA status and possible trade return of Poni and Stajan, the fact we have no top picks for the next two years, the fact that the UFA market for big time players will be slim to non-existent this year, the fact that some of Burke's trades and other actions leave something to be desired, and Wilson's weird coaching decisions seem to persist.

But next year should be the most interesting of Burke's regime. With all these expiring contracts, and all the kids likely to be given full time roles, and certainly some UFAs and trades to come, that will be the true test.

If next year we're anywhere around where we are this year, and not substantially improved, then you can be sure that the Burke regime was a total and complete failure.

I really don't think two seasons is a fair testament of a GM's managerial capacity. I'm willing to give him five years to work his magic. That seems fair.

If we're bottom 5 again last year, that's almost three seasons of no improvement under Burke.

That's completely unacceptable. A good GM, with a good number of prospects, a ton of expiring contracts, and all the money in the world, should be able to right this ship well before 5 years have passed.

I like Staal plenty. I think he's at least going to turn into an uber-2nd line centre - big, fast, great defensively, with 30gl/70pt type production. Sort of like a modern day Nieuwendyk.

And I wouldn't be shocked to see him jump up to the 40gl/80+ pt level, either.
