Leaf Rumours

Johnson is feuding with Lombardi now, so I think he wants him off the team. The guy is a headcase. And where will he fit in on the Leafs exactly? Another defenseman?

Schenn to Atlanta or Schenn to LA for Johnson and something else... dear god no.

Maybe LA wants to reunite the Schenn brothers.

this kind of bothers me though:

Burke has shown no willingness to do this either

There really is no reason to do it this year though with so many UFA's.. there was the possibility of some of them playing well enough to create a market..

if they were sent down, teams would offer nothing. They may still offer nothing, but at least they know that they are NHL players.

I'm no big fan of Schenn, but Schenn >>>>> Johnson. Johnson's a massive headcase, and is looking like a pretty big bust right now. With Schenn, at least he's got character and we know he can play in the NHL. And if we did decide to trade him, his trade value should be a lot higher than a busting former first round pick from five years ago with attitude problems.

I'd take a chance on Johnson, especially if we're moving Kabby, but he certainly shouldn't cost too much.

Yeah, I'd for sure take a shot at Johnson. Why the hell not? We've seen with guys like White, you just need to be patient with young d-men. Especially if you can grab him for cheap. His contract is pretty good too (one more year at $1.4 mil).

Could end up being a steal.

If the Leafs really are interested in Whacky Jack, they must be planning a Kaberle move.

Frankly, that's a horrid trade off should that be the thinking. I am completely unimpressed by Burke and trust him about as far as I can throw Nik Antropov.

He's big, has all the physical tools you could ask for out of a top pairing defender...and his game has progressed a bit every year.

Would obviously depend on the requested return...but it's the type of move that you can rid yourself pretty easily, but could pay huge, huge dividends.

There's a boatload of talent there though....and who the **** are we kidding, we're running Garnet Exelby or Jeff Finger out there every night with Lee Stempniak sharing point duty on our first PP unit.

As long as they're not asking for something goofy (Schenn, Kadri, Bozak, Stalberg, etc)....I'd be very tempted to take a shot at it.

Not a chance that Stajan + anything short of a premier asset lands us Boedker.

Mueller has big talent, and if we can get him on the cheap (which it would be, if we were trading an impending UFA and a C level prospect for him), then it's a move well worth making. He clearly needs to get some time between him and that concussion, and some space between him and Phoenix. We can provide both...

Anybody got a good scouting report on Mueller? Does he have the upside of a #1 center?

Yeah. Good vision, good passing, good size.

The concussions are a huge concern, but then hey, I don't think that Buffalo has been disappointed with Tim Connolly -- even when he's only playing 50 games a year.

I would definitely take a flier on Mueller. As much as I want to see the Leafs keep Stajan, if they can parlay him into a 21 year old with Mueller's upside then it's a move this team has to make.

It isn't as if there are questions about Mueller's ability to succeed in the NHL -- he's 21 and already has a 22 goal and 53 point season under his belt. So it's just a matter of getting him over this mental hump. And I agree with ME, I think he could be had in a deal. Given that Phoenix wants (needs?) badly to make the playoffs, maybe even in a deal centred around Stajan.

Depends on how active the deadline is last year.

Last year was ridiculously conservative for deadline standards, and no one wanted to give up picks in a VERY good draft.

This year, there seems to be a lot of parody though, and a much worse draft.

If more teams decide to make moves, players values go up, and there is no way Stajan only gets a mid round pick. No way.

If its like last year. He'll probably get a 2nd a la Moore.

As for Mueller, I'm pretty sure he doesn't play center anymore, so I'm not sure he projects to be a #1 center, but he's definately a guy worth taking a chance on. Though...like Connolly, he'll probably never be the player he could have been. But he could still be a good one.

Like everything, it depends on the other offers out there, but I'm not crazy at all about Mueller.

I would MUCH rather just re-sign Stajan, who is only 26, and get the ceiling of 55 points that Mueller probably won't be able to achieve. MUCH.
