Leaf Rumours

THIS TEAM BURKE INHERITED.

You are taking way credit for a cup win because he inherited the roster (which is a blatant lie, but whatever), and now you are throwing him under the bus for another team he did in fact inherit.

Kessel, Bozak, Primeau, Orr, Beauchemin, Komi and Gus are the only regulars on this team that Burke brought it. 7 out of 20 guys. And hell, Bozak wasn't even playing until Grabo went down. So really 6 out of 20.

Irony at its finest.

And I'm getting really annoyed having to keep repeating this but those worried about the 2011 Draft need not be. It's the worst in fifteen years. Utter crap.
Can I borrow that time machine from you? There are some winning lottery numbers in the future I need to find out.

Holy shit.

Your post just alerted me to the possibility that we might go through the exact same thing next year. All the while we figured we'd be at the top of the league by the 2011 draft.

No 1st and mired in the cellar.

Right now it's the likeliest possibility, now that the current team has shown itself to be the league's worst, instead of a bubble playoff contender like Burke expected.

There is only so much renovation Burke can do this summer given the no top picks and shallow UFA pool(and he's already said we're not interested in Kovalchuk). In terms of promotion, if ALL of Kadri/Bozak/Stalberg/Hanson are going to be up all next year and play well enough to replace what Stajan, Poni, Hagman etc did, that's only a lateral move when this team is already in the basement THIS year. And I wouldn't lay bets that this will happen by any means. Which probably means we're going to get worse.

Burke is in deep, deep trouble. He might never recover from the miscalculation he made on this season.

What are you, a Habs fan? 17 of the 23 regulars on the roster that season were brought in by Burke, including two of the top three defencemen in the league at that time, and the team's leading goal-scorer. In the next two seasons the Ducks went 89-60-15 (.543 winning percentage) and won a playoff round while losing in seven games in the first round the other time. It's not a world-beaters record but I would certainly take a good team like that right now, wouldn't you?

Getzlaf, Perry, McDonald, Pahlsson, R. Niedermayer, and Giggy were all there before Burke. Four of their top 6 scorers and their starting goaltender among them. The core was set, Burke came in and added S. Niedermayer (which even Burke admits was lucky because his brother already played for them).

That's pretty much the reverse of our situation. We had no core, just a bunch of supporting players. And there's no track record for Burke of taking a team like ours and making it good, adding that core we need to compete.

And, if this is the best Burke has to offer, I don't think there will be a track record of it when Burke gets sent packing finally.

Burke brought in the teams 3 best players. Selanne, Neidermayer and Pronger.

Not to mention the dozen or so other guys he brought in like Beauchemin.

No Burke, no cup. Sorry.

I'll take the first overall pick of any draft, thanks, and be pretty confident I've landed a franchise player.

Where's the irony?

He inherited a good core there and won.

He inherited a bad core here and is showing he can't make it good.

What's the problem?

The first overall picks in the drafts considered most comparable to 2011 at this point.

I suppose scouts around the world are lying for some unknown reason if that is the case. It's been projected for a while now.
So the scouts are projecting that there will be zero NHL players coming out of the 2011 draft? And more importantly, zero impact players? All lottery picks, therefore, completely worthless?

It's pure speculation, nothing more. They may be able to project that as a group, the 2011 draft class will be weak, but you are projecting that assessment into an argument that us giving Boston another lottery pick would mean nothing because there will be no good players, even at the top of the draft class.

And we both know that is both (a) untrue, and (b) a premature evaluation.

The irony is in once instance you won't give him credit for the team he "inherited," and in the other instance you are putting all the blame on him for a team he inherited.

Thats called irony my friend.

No, but there are very few high-end talents available. And I would be exceedingly skeptical of anyone pumping up most of the players next season given how weak the group as a whole is looking like at the moment.

A what??

Annnnd...the thread is now off course.

Also you can't possibly say that Burke has shown he can't "make this team good" after just a year, when he's only added 6 regulars to the roster.

Thats just irrational.

Been mentioned multiple times on the Russian Prospects website by scouts there, by The Hockey News, and several scouts that I've talked to at OHL games.
