Leaf Rumours

Players from the Ducks Championship team Burke aquired:

Selanne, Kunitz, Marchant, Moen, Thornton, Parros, May, Neidermayer, Pronger, Beauchemin, O'Donnell, Dipenta, Huskins, Jackman.

That is 7 of 12 forwards, and all 7 defensemen.

Selanne and Niedermayer wanted to go to Anaheim for reasons that had nothing to do with Burke. Pure luck. Luck Kovy chasing him down next summer because he absolutely must be a Leaf.

The rest of those guys are relatively inconsequential considering the core he had when he got there.

He got his Cup, he caught lightning in a bottle one year. But he didn't exactly build the Red Wings there.

Yeah. He added 14 of 21 players, including the teams 3 best players, but none of it had anything to do with Burke.

Keep telling yourself that.

Plus he acquired Jonas Hiller and Bobby Ryan who are two of the biggest names on the Ducks going forward.

He simply drafted Ryan with the 2nd overall pick. That's like commending TB for taking Hedman or Col for taking Duchene.

Yes, he brought in Hiller. But it was Giggy that won the Cup. Hiller wasn't on the Cup team and hasn't done anything of import yet either.

Actually, he reached on Bobby Ryan and passed on the conventional guys like Jack Johnson and Andrew Ladd. He wanted to trade down but no one would.

So it was a brilliant pick actually.

And yeah, nothing great about getting a young, legit #1 goalie off the scrap heap. Who cares about that?

Actually, a lot of people were scared off by Ryan's upbringing. Burke deserves full marks for doing his due diligence and having the cajones to actually draft him.

I'll keep telling myself what I've already told you.

Burke is proving himself to be a horrid GM when players aren't handed to him on a silver platter.

ISS Rankings:

1. Sidney Crosby, Center
2. Benoit Pouliot, Left Wing
3. Jack Johnson, Defense
4. Gilbert Brule, Center
5. Bobby Ryan, Right Wing

the best or second best player in the league so far this year wasn't handed to burke on a silver platter -- he made an aggressive but savvy move, not unlike the kessel trade, to get both sedins.

of course, it also took a good 5-6 years before they proved burke right so maybe we should cut him a little slack?

TSN

1 Sidney Crosby, C Pittsburgh Penguins 1
2 Jack Johnson, D Carolina Hurricanes 3
3 Benoit Pouliot, LW Minnesota Wild 4
4 Bobby Ryan, RW Anaheim Ducks 2
5 Anze Kopitar, C Los Angeles Kings 11

Jeez, looking at the 2005 draft, it looks like we got arguably the second or third best player out of the whole draft in Rask. Only Crosby and Ryan are better.

And we gave him up for Raycroft.

Yep. He was handed 14 out of 21 players on his team on a silver platter.

Bang on. Just brilliant.

Dear gnat, the point has been made several times over, so ignore it if it suits you.

The entire core was already in place for his Cup team, of the three main pieces he added, Nieds and Selanne wanted to sign in Anaheim regardless of whether Burke was there. The only significant move he can be credited for is Pronger. One player. The rest are all secondary role players at best, so who gives a shit?

And Ryan and Hiller have nothing to do with anything here. They weren't part of his Cup team and are entirely irrelevant. Am I contesting that he's never drafted anyone good? We have Kadri as proof of that, hopefully. Did I say he can't land a potential diamond in the rough undrafted UFA? We have Gus to show he can do that.

You want to address the real point, do so without grabbing at irrelevant details. He went to Vancouver and turned a bad team into a team that was almost always out by the first round. He went to Anaheim and inherited a very good core, added a few important pieces primarily with luck, and won a Cup, only to have the team degrade right after.

He has no track record of taking a bad team with no core and turning it into a Cup winner. The one time he won it all, he had a LOT already in place for him to build on - and even then it was a one and done team.

Cuddle up with pics of Burkie if it makes you feel all toasty inside, but there's no reason to believe, based on his track record and his moves since taking over the team, that this guy is going to restore us to our former glory.

None.

No there is every reason to believe in Burke based on his track record.

Every reason. As long as you look at it logically, and not with a vandetta, backing any irrational claim you can to pick it apart.

His record stands up for itself. I don't even need to defend it.

And of course in talking about Anaheim's dissent after the cup it is relevant what he did for that team going forward. Its stupid to suggest otherwise. You can't just say "look at the team now" and then attack people for talking about what is there now.

Yeah, I have a vendetta against anyone I think is or has been shitting the bed. It's just because I don't like them, not because there's any reason.

Just like it was my vendetta against Blake, he of the 38 point pace now? Or my vendetta against Kessel to not like that trade from the start because of where our team was at?

Maybe I have reason to not be fond of Burke due to his flubbing of the Antropov situation, his trading of Kubina, Stralman, and Tlusty for jack shit, his inability to move up in the draft despite all his hot air about landing JT, his sacrificing of such high picks for one relatively unproven Kessel, his outright lies about sending big contracts to the minors if they were underperforming, his preemptive strike on going after Kovalchuk, his backing of Toskala and Wilson despite their obvious incompetence, his penchant for trashing players before trading them and thus killing their trade value, and so on.

No, it's just personal for me. I just don't like his rosy complexion. That's the real reason.

You rush to judgment way too early, and make your mind about the guy based on that and then attack anything you can get your hands on, no matter how meaningless, and refuse to acknowledge anything good, at any point, in the history of time.

Call it whatever you want.

I would say Kopitar is better. Price might also be better. If Rask was a little more proven I would give him the nod.

101 just stop wasting energy arguing with him. Its useless.

And LOF come with a some decent insults. Gnat? seriously?

Something tells me you were picked on a lot as a kid

Who of significance have they lost other than Pronger?

That something must also tell you I care what you think or that you ever add anything of value.

Wrong on all counts.
