The problem with that is that the UFA forward market is very very weak, and unless he is going to spend the dollars on Ilya i think leaf fans will be dissapointed with how much guys liek Marleau are going to cost. Even role players like Ott might get too much

Dreger says the Leafs are looking for a second rounder and a prospect for Poni. We all know that Nashville was in on him last year and are again this year.

I've run into Mike Palmateer (a Leafs scout) at a few Storm games lately. My guess is he's looking at Taylor Beck and Mike Latta (both Nashville prospects from last year).

Ponikarovsky has turned himself into a really nice player, or should i say, Toronto, out of necessity has turned him into a very nice hockey player.

But having bumped into this guy off ice, I have to say, he is probably giving it all he has right now to sign a contract that will set him UP for life. TIME to get rid of him. NOW.

No. Honestly, how many times is this now that you've proposed that Toronto trades Kaberle to Chicago for a bunch of "B" assets? Quality > Quantity. If you want Kaberle to play for your favourite hockey team, you're welcome to start cheering for the Leafs again. Otherwise, you'll just have to give up the fantasy.

Healey was just joking the other day, saying if Nashville is inquiring a player, it means at least 10 other teams are inquiring about that player.

And there are reports as many as 15 teams have shown serious interest in Poni.

I hope that gets us a better return than what we got for Antropov ... which is crazy, because Antropov is a better player than Poni in pretty much every area.

Regardless, I'll be happy if we get a 2nd + prospect for Poni. That said, I wonder if after the Phaneuf and JSG trades, isn't it better to try to bundle multiple players and do a 4-5 players deal. Burke seems to be really good at mixing valuable pieces with stiffs and getting a better return.
 
I think Burke is looking at all options, and I think his first one would be to somehow get a legit top six forward.

However despite having a cap, the NHL hasn't gotten into the idea that expiring contracts are gold... and most "salary dump" players are dumps because they aren't that good.

Since this kabs thing cam out, I can't see getting much for a package of Stemp, Poni, Primeau and Grabs

Cuz I could see the leafs giving them Primeau, Poni and maybe even Grabs for Filatov + a pick

Primeau, Poni and Grabovski for arguably one of the top-5 prospects in the world (AND A PICK?)...

Filatov will be a big part of Columbus next season with Hitchcock gone.

I'm sure that Burke would NOT hang up the phone on an offer like this, ESPECIALLY if a prospect of Beach's calibre is involved.

interesting, but I think I prefer Poni to Kunitz flat out, and Kunitz costs $3.7+ for the next 2 seasons.

and I'm not sure a late 1st makes up the difference.

but it's interesting for sure.
 
I'd rather give Poni 3.7 than pay Kunitz that............and getting basically a 2nd rounder from Pit, doesn't sweeten the pot enough.

I pray that isn't happening.
