Leaf Rumours

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/07/red_wings_ken_holland_will_rea.html

Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said he plans to reach out to about a half-dozen forwards.

“I'll express interest, see what they're thinking,'' Holland said.

His biggest need is a second-line center, since it appears Valtteri Filppula won't return.

The Red Wings have interest in Florida's Stephen Weiss. Other centers scheduled to hit the market include Mike Ribeiro (Washington), Matt Cullen (Minnesota), Derek Roy (Vancouver) and Tyler Bozak (Toronto). Patrik Elias reportedly is close to re-signing with New Jersey.

The Red Wings are out of the bidding for Vincent Lecavalier, who is seeking a five-year deal for $5 million per season, which is a longer term and more money than Detroit is willing to offer. Lecavalier's agent told teams he has identified a club he wants to play for. It's believed to be Dallas.

The Red Wings had some interest in left wing David Clarkson of New Jersey a couple of weeks ago, but it has cooled considerably as they've done their due diligence. They're not prepared to meet his anticipated demands of a long-term deal (5-6 years) for more than $5 million per season.

Boston right wing Nathan Horton reportedly is seeking a five- or six-year deal worth $6 million a season, which is more than the Red Wings are prepared to give to a player with injury issues (shoulder, concussion).

The Red Wings have some interest in right wing Jarome Iginla, the longtime face of the franchise in Calgary who was traded to Pittsburgh late last season. But there are concerns about whether Iginla, who is 36, can play an up-tempo game at both ends of the ice.

Sweet jesus these UFAs are out of their minds.

I can see some of these demands on a cap thats going through the roof, but that's just not the case.

lots of speculation vinny has picked Dallas.

leafs aren't even on the radar rumour-wise on this one, that's either good news or simply confirmation of the usual pattern with the leafs and star free agents. hopefully we sneak out of the woodwork here and grab him.

Nah Detroit, unfortunately Vinny doesn't want the spotlight of TO.

Chalk me up as another person who believes that Lecavalier will eventually sign in Detroit. Dallas can offer him the cash but they're simply not a competitive team and it's not a good situation for a 33 year-old UFA to go into.

That would be amazing for both teams if it happened. We'd be out from under it, and for whatever reason, I bet Grabs would thrive in Detroit. Might be a bit of a gamble though, with Detroit in our division next year.

By the way, there has to be some truth to maybe Grabs getting dealt.

Nonis was very clear that he had deals he was working on that would see us reduce our cap space. That can only mean deals where we're losing larger contract players that we have no plans for.

Those players can only be Liles, Komi, and Grabs. And Liles shouldn't take much work if they want to shed him, Komi pretty much has no takers no matter what, but Grabs may have some people interested if the right deal can be structured.

5 years/25 million for Vinny? In light of Bozak asking for 8 years/40 million, and the likes of Clarkson and Clowe reportedly looking for $5M+, doesn't that seem pretty low?

I won't be disappointed when he signs elsewhere (though I will be disappointed if he ends up in our division), but I hope the Leafs at least come along and blow that offer out of the water financially.

everyone is talking about buying out Grabovaki. What if he returns to pre-2013 form? (which is a 20-30 goal scorer)

He frustrated the hell out of me last year, but I questions what the cause of the huge decline is.
