Leaf Rumours

5/$20 is actually not bad for Bozak.

Yes it is

Its locking up a mediocre hockey player for 5 years.

That's 5 years where you would be unable to acquire an actual 1st line C.

The goal of the offseason for Toronto should be to maximize Phil Kessel, by getting him a C that can match his elite talent.

This clown is terrible, and he is incapable of sliding to the wing and a terrible fit on the bottom 2 lines.

I'm stunned they are offering him a contract at all with better options out there and more cap space than all but the Islanders

They should be after Ribeiro, Stastny, Weiss, Roy, Filpulla in that order

I think at the same time the NHL GM's are indeed crazy throwing $$ around, we have to realize a 50 points youngish center who can effectively play in ES, PP, PK and play 20min a game WILL cost you more than $3-4M a pop in today's economics. You are looking at $4, 4.5 or $5M or even $6M a pop depending on his intangibles, size, defensive game, etc.

$20M/5 yrs is very reasonable for Bozak. It is in fact a pretty good deal for the Leafs.

terrible

If you're going to overpay someone, overpay the most talented guy you can get. 6.5 million to Ribeiro (assuming the bidding goes that high) is way better than 4 million to Bozak.

Don't overpay for mediocrity, overpay for legitimate talent.

You Know,...there's no shame in doing nothing this offseason.

This UFA crop is damn terrible....an some of the numbers reported are worse than ever before 7/49 for Clarkson???

A team like Toronto could benefit from strictly offering 1 year deals to these guys, if It pans out great, if not...you aren't killing yourself with mediocre free agents

Bozak at 4M wouldn't be paid like a #1 C, nor is he the Leafs most productive C.

He's "#1" in name only.

He would still be centering the top line, and playing with your top winger, bringing down the skill level of your top winger.

He's not even a proven good 2nd line C, as who knows how bad he'd be away from elite talent like Kessell.

Moreover, bringing him back does NOTHING to improve your C ice position over last year, which offensively is probably worse with Bolland over Grabo, albeit much much better in the bottom 6.

I don't understand the fascination with Bozak for a team that aledgedly thinks they can win now. He might make some sense for the homo flames who need young bodies, but for Toronto?....good god.

Weiss, Roy, Ribiero, and Filpulla are all varying degrees of better.....some big time.

All I'm saying is 4M for Bozak isn't bad given the prices out there for other players.

4M into a cap heading towards 70+ isn't a lot. It will be good 3rd liner money soon.
