Leaf Rumours

Bozak at 4M is very tradeable as well.

He's one of the few Leafs whose reputation is better than his actual performance.

You don't think other teams will catch on that he's a cone of crappyness?

And what does it say about a player when one of the arguments used to defend keeping him is that...we can always deal him later.

It's moreso a terrible fit and decision to bring him back at all.

Dude would just be in the way.

Just because he plays with Kessel now, doesn't mean he will play with Kessel forever.

Eventually, I think it's a good bet that Kadri will takeover and Bozak drops down to the "2nd" or "3rd" line.

4M is the max of what I'd pay for him though.

Yes, signing players to reasonable contracts so there's the option to trade them in the future is important.

Weiss, Roy, Ribiero, and Filpulla are all varying degrees of better.....some big time.
The sad reality is, that isn't true.

Other than Ribeiro, none of them is a massive upgrade over Bozak ... many of them not an upgrade at all ... and that isn't because of how good Bozak is, but how poor the pool is out there.

Kessel with Bozak - .90 G/60
Kessel w/o Bozak - 1.30 G/60

Filpulla probably isn't an upgrade, Weiss & Ribeiro absolutely are. Without Kessel (and premium opportunity), Bozak would be lucky to crack 35 points a year.

Weiss = Connolly.

Would be a horrible move.

Nah, Connolly was a talented but soft and lazy C who couldn't stay healthy. Weiss is a solid 2 way centre who was overhyped due to draft position and the "non traditional hockey market" effect.

Weiss would be an upgrade on Bozak, and a nice add on the right contract. Though, I agree that we're unlikely to see "the right contract" handed out to any of the top handful of names that are on the right side of 30-31 yrs old.

Ribeiro would still be my pick here.

Anything Dreger reports regarding Toronto I would take with a grain of salt; told he has very weak sources pertaining to the Leafs organization

Weiss has been a ~ 50 points center in his best days ... that's not much of an improvement over Bozak.

Weiss is better defensively than Bozak, true, but Bozak can still learn to play better defense at a relatively young age. Weiss is much older, and also doesn't add anything on the physical presence.

You already know Bozak fits in well in the dressing room, and has good chemistry with Kessel. Why pay more for an older center in Weiss and risk chemistry issues?

Well, no, Weiss has been a ~60pts centre in his best days, and didn't have wingers anywhere near as good as Kessel and lupul.
