Those guys are SHIT, but DOGSHIT compared to Kulemin.

You don't let a guy like Kuly go to let Brad Ross in, or bring in some of the worst names out there in Penner and Mueller.
 
This is a 27 year old home grown talent who does everything well, and likely his best years about to come.

You don't drop him for a prospect or some ancient guy.

I guess he'll never get the proper respect unless he scores 30 again.

How can his best years be yet to come when he's potted 30 and likely to never do that again.

At this point he is what he is which is a very very good defensive forward that could play on almost any 3rd line in the NHL..
 
The leafs were stupid and gave clarkson that deal and now there isn't room for kully. It's not a question of his effectiveness. I'd rather have him than clarkson. Too late though.

I think their setup is great so far so i'm hoping they have something else planned...I just don't see Kulemin being moved and ruining what they envisioned by acquiring these new guys(more puck possession)..Kulemin is one of the key pieces imo...I bet something else happens on defence(either Liles is traded or maybe Franson)...We're fairly deep in terms of puck moving guys(especially if Rielly is ready soon) and you guys know how Randy likes his defensive dmen who can't skate. ;)
 
He's exactly the kind of guy you want on the third line.

He's proven that he can score, and in the event of injury say to, oh, maybe Lupul, can fill in on the second line without missing a beat.

Not too many third liners can step up and play on the first and second lines effectively. But he's one.

Dustin Penner - Big body, that can probably be had relatively cheap. Decent option for the 3rd line.

Peter Mueller - Big time prospect a few years back that has seen his production and career slip due to concussions. Might be a good buy-low candidate. Big body, can play center if needed.

Signing both those guy would open up the possibility to move out Kulemin while his value may be perceived high. Kulemin + Liles + for a solid top-4 defender.

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVr - Kadri - Clarkson
Penner - Bolland - Mueller
McLaren - McClement - Orr

Penney is not even worth a league minimum contract. Give that spot to a Marlie before him.
 
None of the UFA forwards out there are all that interesting. If we sign another UFA on the cheap, I'd prefer it to be a defenceman.

Doubt they'll get anyone on the cheap...Brennan fills that out anyway.

The Leafs are looking for a top 3 or 4 defenceman, that's why they were in on guys like Scuderi who played that role for his team this year.
