Leaf Rumours

Kadri for Spezza would be dumb for the leafs on so many different levels.

First of all, when's the last time TOR and OTT traded? It won't happen.

Then, Spezza is about as injury prone as a player can get ... with all the injuries we've sustained down the middle already, trading the only healthy center for someone like Spezza is a very bad move.

Then there's the age thing, the style thing ... the Leafs need a center who can create time and space, someone who's defensively responsible. Spezza is neither.
 
Just a 6'5 center that is responsible defensively and can play hockey better than guys like Steckel and Smithson is fine with me.

It doesn't look like he has Hanzal's offensive skills though.

But if worst case scenario we have a Paul Gaustad with potential to be a 40-50 point guy, I'll take it. With Kadri-Holland-Gauthtier we finally have some depth and potential at center.

I've been quite impressed with Holland actually. I am not sure he's a long term #2, but this guy can play in the NHL and he may still improve. He isn't anything fancy, but he's pretty good at everything and has offensive upsides. Considering we gave up Jessie Blacker for him - who'll never pan out to anything in the big league, it's a very good trade.
 
Blacker's looking pretty decent in Norfolk and displaying the offensive element that had previously been missing to his game in his entire AHL career with the Marlies.

3 goals and 8 points in 10 games for the Admirals since the trade.
 
Not that it was ever going to happen, but to the people that didn't want to move Kadri for Giroux... you dummies.

Giroux on fire. Probably back in the Olympic picture.

Spezza is top 10 to 15 but not top 5.
He has slowed down a ton, coasts back to the bench Kostitsyn style to avoid defensive play and is basically a powerplay specialist and good faceoff guy at this point. Plus his health is always in question. I wouldn't give Kadri for that and Nonis should not either.

That's not even considering that Spezza is their captain, and they're having trouble drawing crowds as is. If they let a second captain go in under a year they might as well do a full blow up because that super fickle fanbase would be up in arms.
 
Spezza is toast. His body is shot.

He might have one or two big years when he's kinda healthy in him left but it's not gonna be pretty from here on out.
 
So it looks like the Rangers are going to buy out Brad Richards this summer. Can we please sign him instead of Bolland? He really won't get that much more money.

No thanks on Richards. I'm happy that taking flyers on old players that are clearly past their primes isn't our "thing" anymore.

Where did you hear this? Truthfully I think Bolland brings more to the table; especially in a 3rd line checking center role. Richards has slown way down and will only get worse
 
I am really wondering what Nonis is thinking/doing right now. I mean, we know what he says to the media, but I would love to be a fly on the wall in his meetings with Randy and Liewicke.
 
Gotta figure heads will roll if the Leafs dont make the playoffs.

Leiweke doesn't seem to be a guy to stand pat.
