Leafs acquire Frederik Anderson from Ducks

Trust the brass; I like Andersen's numbers and he has playoff experience. Liking this deal the more I think about it.

Well, he certainly is a very good goaltender who helps the rebuilding process a lot more than we realize. Young guys tends to develop better in a stable environment where they are put in a good position to succeed. Having a rock in net can only help these guys develop without every mistake they make ending up in the back of the net. And as Hoss mentioned, many wanted a goalie taken at 30. Here we are with a goalie who has had and will have (from all accounts) a career that is better than any goalie we could have hoped to take at that spot. I'm not going to lose much sleep over the 2017 2nd rounder.

And yeah, he's a big goalie with playoff experience and a proven track record at every level he's played in.

I don't like this.

I am OK with taking a chance on Andersen but not at the price of 30th overall and 2nd next year. That's way too steep for a 'maybe'

And how many maybe's have we had? Gustavsson, Bernier, or going back further, Vesa, Raycroft.

In someone like Bishop, at least I know exactly what I'm getting.

Either pay cheap for a maybe (like, a 2nd rounder) or pay the price but get a sure thing.

I hope they are making this trade based on their eye test and our goalie coach / scouts really like they see in Andersen ... they'd better be right.

One thing is for sure- this move will make our team better next season, and if we also sign Stamkos, we'll be a MUCH, MUCH better team

The nice thing about this is that the picks aren't the Leafs only picks like previous trades for goalies. They still have the 31st pick this year and have 2 other 2nd round picks in 2017 anyway.

So in that sense it's almost a free gamble on a young and fairly proven goalie.

I just don't feel comfortable with it because of past experiences with trading for goalies.

2 high picks for a western conference platoon goalie, AGAIN.

in his only season as a fulltime starter, posted a .914sv%.

27yrs old and due a healthy contract.

I miss Reimer.

SAme here.

I don't like this trade one bit.

Mackenzie made a good point though. Do you draft an 18 y/o at 30th? Or just trade for a goalie instead?

I don't mind trading the pick for a goalie, just wish it were a good one. I think you could have kept the pick, got a comparable goalie to Andersen, and not had to lock in for 5 years.

Shanny & Lou are making this decision based on more than just quaint stats like sv% obviously and see things in their internal data & scouting that tell them he's clearly worth investing in. Both with the price paid to acquire him and the 5 year deal.

Doesn't mean they'll necessarily be right...
.but I trust their judgement & scouting process enough to get behind their move, even if just looking at sv% isn't given me what I'd like to see.

Time will tell if their scouting or our looking up sv% numbers are wiser, but I'm willing to give them to benefit of the doubt.

There's lots of folks saying he has been good in a limited capacity. I don't doubt it, but I want to see a larger sample, but it's too late now.

Boo hoo to the Reimer lovers.

Decent deal. 30th overall isn't much to give up. We have so many picks to move around. I trust Lou in his judgement of goalie talent.

I wonder about this 5 year deal.

Trusting Lou and Shanny. I think a lot of us are jaded due to the bad goalie trades of the past (Raycroft, Toskala, Bernier etc)
