Leafs acquire Frederik Anderson from Ducks

Cap space won't be an issue. Bernier/Bozak likely get moved in a second if cap space is needed this year.

He is getting paid like an average NHL goalie, and he has performed at/above that level over the last 3 years with the potential for more based on his track record. And cumulative save percentage is not the be all, end all. We have better stats than that now where we don't have to be so short-sighted about these kinds of things.

This thread is like the Ten Commandments, and a bunch of you are that goateed little ****er that watched miracle after miracle and still doubted.
Oh ye of little faith.:deal:

so 5 million for 5 years with a modified NTC.

Obviously i'd prefer to steal an elite goalie from a team and only pay him crumbs but this is a good deal for both teams involved.

And if anything, this should signal the rebuild is basically over(well, besides one more major acquisition on D). If you're not trying to seriously get a lot better and compete for the playoffs immediately this move makes no sense at all.

Goalie should have been the last piece they added, and ideally one that doesn't cost this much. But I guess they really believe in this guy.. Nerd stats mostly say he's average at worst, high-average at best so if that's the case, 5 shmil per is about market value, maybe even under that by a bit. But since he's not really proven he really shouldn't have gotten much more than 4.. Maybe 4.5 tops. He's about 500k-1m overpaid. Not ecstatic with this move but hopefully Dubas and his team of nerds did some homework with this.. Not too confident about the accuracy of goalie nerd stats though.

I was always fearful of this day. I have all the trust in them in building their d and forwards but when it comes to goaltending I was worried and I still am worried clearly.

Kind of surprised Sens fans haven't come on to slag the deal and claim you just overpaid for the "2nd best Anderson in the division".

As much as I'm trying, I can't make myself like this move. It just brings back a flood of memories, and they're all terrible.

We just got better. I'm thrilled for that. The "pain" is likely over. We have enough pieces to recoup the assets paid for Andersen. We will likely make another couple of moves before training camp opens.

Get us a top 4(preferably a top pairing) RH defender to partner with Rielly and we are in business. Stamkos + a guy like Shattenkirk/Trouba and we are a playoff team.

Don't go counting any chickens quite yet. Andersen's numbers aren't really too far removed from Bernie and Reims. Nor has he proven himself as a full-time starter.

This is the first deal by Shanny & Co that I am initially not happy about. Price was steep, contract is steep.

This guy really has to perform for this to be a good deal and contract and I really hope they know more then we do.

I'm not sure about that. Mngmt might want solidity without necessarily believing they're ready for a big push. Maybe 5 years is when we'll be looking for that guy to take us to the next level. And maybe Andersen ends up that guy .
If not they'll find one .
