Leafs Acquire Malgin for Marchment

The replies in the latest Simmons article gives you a glimpse into the mind of these people.

They simply traded a player who they feel is worse than the player they received in the transaction. The mother fucking horror!

Could this guy be viewed as a Kapanen replacement if he moved for D?

Either way a skill guy Matthews knows for an AHL grinder with no skill that also doesnt grind

If someone watched Mason Marchment play, but didn't know who his father was, no one would call him tough or particularly physical. He's big, that's it.

Yeah this is the problem. People like you are reading into it like this is part of some major plan. They traded a guy who clearly sucks for a guy who also sucks. They feel like the guy they got is better. So they made the trade. This is not part of any big plan to cure "fix" the team or cure world hunger. They traded a guy for a guy that they feel is better at hockey. The end.

No, not remotely.

Yeah, he's a guy who can play up the line up in an emergency (like Johnsson being gone for 6 months). Can be moved around your middle 6 (can play centre on an emergency basis as well), etc.

Basically a really useful 12th/13th forward on a good team. Also is young enough and skilled enough for there maybe to be something else left on his upside. Shit, if he turns into a legit bottom 6 skill midget who does good possession things and chips in some offence, this trade is a huge win.

101 said it. It's like trading for a Petan. Odds are he sucks. But he has a better chance of not sucking than Marchment. So they made the trade. Do enough of these trades and one of these days it will work out.

But those who are acting like Dubas is expecting him to be part of some grandiose "solution" are completely missing the point. It's idiotic.

He fills an Andreas Johnsson sized roster hole. Not saying he'll get top minutes, but with Johnsson out this definitely feels like a roster move made to fill out the NHL roster.

I should have been clearer. I dont think he can replace Kap, but might Engvall replace Kap and this dude be a 4th liner?

This kind of a weird trade invites controversy. Bad move by Dubas. Bizarrely enough, I have followed Malgin very closely last three years. I like low rounders making good. But jeez, did we have to trade for him?
