Leafs acquire Matt Murray

Ya the track record on trades is pretty clear now, and it's shit.

He also hasn't exactly been pulling hidden gems out of the draft like we hoped. That combined with constantly trading picks for garbage rentals, or trading picks to fix previous garbage trades, and things are starting to look pretty bleak.

The drafting has been excellent. For example, only 3 players drafted lower than Sandin have played more games than him, and all three play for shittastic teams. Nobody drafted lower than Robertson has played more than 36gms, which Nick would have almost certainly been ahead of if he was a bit healthier, and again the ones that have played a handful of games more than him have mostly been on shit teams. We're still not being realistic about what his draft picks could do at this point.

And Dubas has used 35 picks in his 5 drafts, that's 7 per draft. The only round where he's used less than 5 picks is the 1st round.

I'm with you, I still think the draft picks have mostly been good one. I think it's his strength. If Murray shits the bed maybe he should just run a Amateur Scouting dept.

Another fun thought on Murray—even at his peak, when he was winning those two Cups, he needed a big helping hand from Fleury in both the regular season and the playoffs.

Never at any point has he been capable of carrying the load himself, despite the starting goalie money we’ve now got budgeted for him.

Dubas had better hope he slams a home run with whoever he chooses to be Murray’s “backup”. It’s really his only hope.

Is Sanford one of the most important employees in our organization this year?

Sure hope he's got some magic potions here.

Most of your goaltending suggestions were good, IMO, unless there's ones I'm forgetting.

I'm sure there were, goaltending is mercurial. But most of the guys I've wanted have turned out to be at least professional options in net. I really don't get this whole "goaltending is voodoo/impossible to predict" stuff. Most down seasons for goalies are injury driven. Most in prime goalies will generate results roughly in line with their career percentages. Jack is a good example. He was widely considered a huge question mark when we traded for him, but a bunch of us here pointed at his career SV% and said "he's probably going to roughly do that" and that's exactly what he did. The struggle is to not over react to weirdo outlier data (Anton Forsberg will probably not continue to be a .917 starter, for example...but .910 isn't crazy at all) in either direction, but identify relatively durable trends in level of play. SV% is also a fairly blunt instrument that team effects can fuck with (especially the proportion of HD/PP chances), so you can get some weird variance there without a goalies level of play really changing that much.

Didnt MAF only play 2 games in his first cup run?

Pretty sure the first one saw Fleury flame out early and Murray take the baton and keep it till the cup win?

No comment on the trade at all from anyone in our FO right?

And no statement from Murray either?
