I do think this part is kinda misleading. The value of dropping from 25 to 38 is a third.

So it's more like Mrazek + 3rd -> Murray + 3rd + 7th

If he double retains, it's probably fine.

They really couldn't find another team to retain 25%. Isn't it just like 1.5m for 2 years? Even if it's for a 2nd rounder? That's the part that annoys me the most. It limits them so much more now. That ~1.5m is gold for them.

Yeah, this is what’s living rent-free in my head today.

I was fully expecting that if Dubas did take a chance on Murray, not only would Ottawa be retaining the full 50%, but Dubas would bring in a third team to retain another 25% or so and bring Murray’s cap hit down to somewhere around $2-2.5M.

Just unbelievable to me that neither of those things happened. Would Chicago not have been perfectly willing to partner up with Dubas again on this as that third team?

To be fair, Chicago is deliberately trying to create a team that’ll lose as much as possible next season.
