Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

I mean being 100% would be insane. Being 60-70% is pretty crazy already.

And grundstrom is gonna have hundreds of nhl games in the end which is already better than most 2nd rounders.

Like this would be good results from 10 mid 1st rounders let alone 2nd rounders.

there's nothing crazy about it at all, at least right now

for example, where is the centre of any consequence in that list?? Minten I guess? that was my point, at least this particular time around.

Knies Durzi and Woll are the players making any real impact. back then Woll was a 3rd rounder, and that was 10 years ago now.

that is "crazy" success to you??

as an aside, when I say bottom of the barrel scouting a decent chunk of that is pro scouting.

Compare this to every other team in the league. You'll be surprised at how highly the Leafs rank. 2nd rounders are generally longshots.

Yeah that is absolutely fantastic success from 2nd rounders.

Most 2nd rounders never become nhlers. Let alone hit at a 60-70% nhl rate and 30-40% impact rate.

Like i said, that would be a great hit rate from mid 1sts let alone 2nds.

Our recent 1st round success rate is pretty damn good too tbh.

getting Lane Hutson in that part of the draft is crazy. getting Brad Marchand or Patrice Bergeron is crazy.

you and I have different definitions of crazy, obviously.

They've been very good at selecting quality NHLers in the 2nd round relative to the rest of the league, and I'm not sure that's debatable? But even getting 1 star in the last 10 picks is good. 10% hit rate for a star player in the 2nd round is better than average.

But it'll be 2 when all is said and done once Koblacava hits the tape.

I guess that depends on what you mean by "come around"

Ive been projecting him a 30/60 power forward for about 3 years now, no? That's pretty much what he's been the last 2 seasons.

Not exactly, no. You said he was a 20 goal Engvall.

But glad to see you going to bat for him now. If we can keep doing what we’ve been doing in the 2nd, I’d be pretty pleased. Just turning them into NHLers consistently is good.

So that's about 65 guys who have become at least regular NHLers - an average of about 2 per team.

The Leafs have 6, so triple the average team. I think that's the most of any team but i'd have to double check.

There have been a small handful of legit star types drafted in this group - J.Robertson, Faber, Hutson, Lacombe - maybe Hronek. The Leafs don't have any of those, that's true.

They have three borderline top-line guys in Knies, Durzi, and Woll. Knies looks pretty certain to get there and could easily end up the 2nd best forward here behind J.Robertson.

Two more of them are young 3rd line types with upside left in Minten and Robertson.

Only one of those guys is just a 4th line type in Grundstrom.
