Leafs recall Sandin & Liljegren / Rielly out eight weeks with broken foot

I have been jerking him off with my feet since before the draft.

*edit* Just took a look at the thread from the draft, the Lilly love was pretty universal. LM said he was arguably a top 5 pick, and calling him a "steal" at 17 was a very regular thing.

There were few times in the past that there was one specific guy outside the top 10 or 15 that I wanted, but basically I remember some of us wanting him specifically before the draft even started. Because he was initially slated to go really high and then dropped by June for whatever reason (injury?). Seemed like the perfect guy to get at 17. And then expecting someone else to take him each pick leading up to ours, and then our actually taking him with our pick...that was a very memorable first round for me.

I had the same experience with Nylander, though to a lesser extent since he went 8th. Exactly who I wanted.

I was torn between Strome and Marner, but on the day of the draft was leaning Marner, and got him.

Sandin I didn’t really know anything about.

Lilly, Willy, Marner, Mo were all really dreams come true on draft day for most of us. Drafting speed and skill all the way.

The thing about Timmy in his draft year is that the year before, as a 16 year-old, he'd scored at a 0.76 PPG pace in Sweden's under-20 junior league and then made it to the SHL for 19 games and actually put up some production (1 goal, 5 points)---crazy for a 16 year old.

So in his draft year, I think people were expecting him to take an exponential leap forward and put up super-star level offensive production. When that didn't happen and he produced at pretty much the exact same rate as the year before, it's almost like because of expectations vs. reality, there was a wild over-correction from "this guy is a superstar" to "this guy barely deserves to get picked in the first round".

It didn't help him either that he was impacted by mono & injuries, and that his draft year was spent with a hilariously bad gong-show of a team that barely avoided being relegated out of Sweden's top league.

But hey, everyone else's loss is our gain.

I don't doubt that Lilly was put on a few "do not draft" lists due to his lack of progression in his draft year.

Also, what a great looking draft class that was. A lot of nice NHL depth in the first 2 rounds.

If these scouts can't understand the impact mono can have on a regular person let alone a pro athlete then they likely shouldnt have a job to begin with

So cool. I didn't think I was alone at all. But nice to see all the Lilly support. I have no idea why I love the guy, but I just do.

Must be the thick calves eh peeps?

And I want to clarify, I love the Schenn brothers, they are heart and soul Western Canadian brothers. I just didn't agree that Luke was top four. But as a person? Loveable I am sure.

Probably old news. But I may have said eons and eons ago. I was predicted to be a top line, hall of fame NHL hockey player and a top ten tennis player,

But I knew, I knew something was wrong and someone took a camera shot of me, winning a tournament, and all I could see was how pathetic my left calve was. The right was fine. But the left?

I was stunned. Shocked, and was never ever, ever the same after seeing that shot.

No coach, no fan said anything, I said it to myself.

I will say, a few years later I saw a top three of all time basketball player, do shit, that probably would still work today(so maybe I short sold myself) the guy was Micheal Jordan and both his calves were as bad as me left was and is.

But apart from that particular anomaly, I don't see many people do much of anything in sport with chicken lower extremities.

In watching this Rasmus Sandin closely. Wow. have to admit, there really is something there.

Not a big guy, but yeah, Mindz, this guy can cut up the ice. And his passing and shot are foof. Damn.

All we need now is for Fred or Woll turn into Jordan Binnington.

I told you man. Edges and IQ. The kid has them both at a stupid high level. The rest of the physical attributes will catch up over the next few years. Lilly was a scrawny bitch 18 months ago. Monster now

You were right again. Go figure.
