Cmon , why the hell would Yzerman move a young star for a 19 year old rookie

He was grossly overrated , soft as butter and pouting

If he wasnt French there is no trade
So no other team in the league would have traded for him? Right...

Tampa had reasons to trade him, which were stated in another post. Montreal had reasons to want him besides just being French. I highly doubt Montreal was the only team interested in a former 3rd overall draft pick that just scored 21 goals and 53 points as a 21 years old and had 14 points in 17 playoffs games as a 20 years old.

I had real hope for Drouin but putting him at centre fucked him over big time. Then his injuries, insomnia, anxiety took over and it was over for him in Montreal. I wish him the best wherever he ends up.

I can understand the disappointment with that trade. I was disappointed too. It made no sense to trade a top prospect Dman who had both size and mobility for an undersized forward with some previous issues. I guess the only consolation is that the jury was still out whether or not Sergachev was elite, but last season , he put up some monster numbers.

Molson was on Melnick’s show and said, following NYR loss in 2017 playoffs, the plan was to resign both Radulov & Markov to a set amount, replace Emelin (who was being exposed to expansion draft) by Alzner for the same cap hit, and add to the offense by acquiring Drouin to play W.

There was a specific plan in place, unfortunately there was no mitigation planning if Plan A didn’t materialize.

Drouin being francophone was a bonus, not the primary reason

I was disappointed too but Drouin was a major let down. Had he just not reached his potential it would have been one thing, and still a bad trade, but he regressed to the point of being near useless. Drouin in TB wasn’t a bad player. We never got that version. Even TB announcers couldn’t recognize the player they use to watch 2 years after the trade.

The best two teams made it to the final. Quebec plays a similar style as the Petes but does it better. So Seattle will likely outshoot Quebec by a wide margin, Remparts will wait for the opportunities.

I’ll maintain Beck was the steal of the draft - return on draft position basis
I've backed off "steal of the draft". What I do see though is a solid NHLer. Even if he tops out middle six it was a good pick. We need players like that with size, not 5'10".
