10/27/07

TORONTO, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were edged 3-2 by the Toronto Marlies on Saturday night at Ricoh Coliseum. With the loss, Hamilton's record drops to 3-4-0-1 on the season.

Toronto opened the scoring at 2:37 of the first period when Michel Leveille notched his second tally of the season. Leveille corralled the puck in his own end, broke down the right wing and beat 'Dogs netminder Jaroslav Halak with a wrist shot.

Eric Manlow responded for Hamilton at 8:39 of the opening frame with a power-play goal to make the score 1-1. Marvin Degon and Sergei Kostitsyn earned assists on Manlow's first goal of the campaign.

The teams exchanged goals in the second period. The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead at the 8:54 mark when Cory Urquhart took a pass from Duncan Milroy and buried a low shot past goaltender Scott Clemmensen on the glove side. Then at 16:10, the Marlies evened the score 2-2 with a power-play goal from Staffan Kronwall. The goal was scored just 45 seconds after the Bulldogs had killed off the first penalty of a two-man advantage.

At 3:31 of the third period, Kris Newbury scored a shorthanded goal to give Toronto a 3-2 lead. Former Bulldog Bryan Muir earned the lone assist on Newbury's eventual game-winning goal.

Between the pipes, Halak made 37 saves on 40 shots and recorded the loss for the Bulldogs, while Clemmensen picked up the win by stopping 14 of 16 shots for the Marlies.

Hamilton went 1-for-8 on the power play while Toronto was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, October 28th) at 4:00 p.m. when they host the Rockford IceHogs at Copps Coliseum.

Another day another loss for this years edition of the hungover Dogs. Wtf goes on? They've got more talent than this.

They're missing a couple of key offensive guys in Grabovski and Kostitsyn, and a strong leader and defensive presence in Chipper. Plus they have got to be one of the youngest teams in the AHL. They'll be fine but there's going to be some growing pains.

And of course they don't have Price in the net.

Kostitsyn now has 3G 9A in 9 games. He is really starting to look like the better of the two.

I've seen a few game action vids of Kosti the younger. Among other things, he actually hits and digs pucks out of the corners.

I agree, Sergei's really looking like the better brother at this point.

Great to see he's putting up points in Hamilton. Andrei just sooked.

In other news, Yannick Weber scored a hat trick tonight after being named OHL player of the week. Is this kid for real?
