One wonders what big piece of bad news is on the horizon for Trump. This whole escapade smells like a distraction.

I assume the main thing he’s attempting to distract from is his ongoing catastrophic war in Iran and the hollowing out of American military power in the Middle East.

But take your pick from any of a number of other boondoggles and scandals.

Though as much as this is a distraction, he was always going to get around to this. He’s repeatedly and consistently made it crystal clear since his re-election that he intends to subjugate and eventually annex Canada. Going down in history as the President that became an emperor and vastly expanded the American empire’s borders is clearly on his bucket list, so he was always going to make a concerted, if ham-fisted attempt to do this.

I used to subscribe to the distraction theory but I think the answer is simpler than that. He front runs the chaos he creates to make him and his followers money. I'm sure there were shorts placed on a bunch of impacted Canadian companies.

Basic greed and narcissism explains the vast, vast majority of things he says and does. If an action of his isn't giving him narcissistic supply, it's making him money, and vice versa. Theres not a lot of room in that hollowed out husk of a human for much else.

Confirmation is great and all, but we knew that one side was lying and the other wasn't....so we already knew the truth. America lies, constantly, about everything. That's just what they are now.

Scott Moe and Danielle Smith are standing in the way of this. The screeching would be deafening if we slapped export taxes on ‘Berta crude oil & gas, or Sasky potash or canola.

At a certain point we might have to just ignore them and do it anyway, but for now Carney’s likely trying to maintain as much of a united front as possible with all of the Premiers.

I think Moe would be on board.

All incompetent people tend to over estimate their capabilities. Wealthy incompetent people are the worst of the bunch. We have a group of wealthy, incompetent Americans who think they can beat Mark Carney at a game of political economic warfare.

This is going to sting us a bunch, but they've picked a deeply stupid fight that they can't win.

A pretty terrifying thought to imagine a world where Trump was smart enough to keep his mouth shut about Canada until after Poilievre secured a majority mandate.

By this point we’d likely be functionally annexed, if not officially.
