Read his bio. He was flawed
I read his bio. Everyone is flawed despite his flaws despite what he’s done he’s still top five.

And despite what Bill Cosby did his sense of rhythm, timing pace and stand-up comedy was fucking amazing as well

There is a really sick tendency to only associate people with their sins as opposed to being able to see where they’ve been magnificent and separate those two things it’s not mental gymnastics. It’s being able to recognize the good and be comfortable with the fact that that can exist besides bad without having a bad negate the good it’s not a zero sum game.

Ya, wouldn’t want to let all that rape interfere with your enjoyment of Bill Cosby’s rhythm and timing.
I appreciate his skill as a writer and performer. I can separate that from the person. You can’t. We’ll have to agree to disagree on this.

So, in the extreme, you would buy Hitlers paintings?
So this is where people jump the shark. It goes like this: Moral objection, disagreement = Hitler. These arguments are tiresome. The moralizing and attempts to capture human perfection in public figures is tedious and as flawed as the people that can’t live with hypocrisy.

I’m a hypocrite and so are you.

Moral purity doesn’t exist.

Outrage is usually proportional to a persons inability to accept imperfection in themselves or blind spots around their own inadequacies.

I’m a total hypocrite and completely at ease with this.

I wish for you the same level of self knowledge and internal peace.

But attempting to dunk on or shame me with that kind of ‘well what about Hitler?’approach?

Tedious.
Do better.

We’ll have to, yes, and thats fine. But you called it a sick tendency. And I would argue that your ability to watch Cosby babble on about pudding or whatever the fuck, and enjoy it despite all the lives he ruined, is the actual sick tendency and not the virtue you seem to think it is.

Look, I am not a philosophy guy. But in philosophy you have to test the theory to the extreme to see if the theory holds true or where the limits are.

pushing arguments to extreme boundary cases or using reductio ad absurdum and thought experiments are standard tools in philosophy to test the limits of a theory.

Obviously, you reacted very strongly to the Hitler questions, so you do have moral limits or you believe in societal limits for artists.

Mass murder is a no go, but mass rapist is fine?

Again, you’re trying to dunk on me. This is a status game. You can back off because you’re being a dip shit

I appreciate his skill, and I separate that from his behaviour outside of that realm that’s all

When you were trying to create a reaction about somebody being morally inferior because they don’t condemn a person, I condemn what Crosby did and at the same time I can appreciate a different aspect of his life. Same with John MacDonald I condemn the residential schools, but I appreciate that he found in our country. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive for me. It’s not mental gymnastics. It’s being able to see one thing that was done well, and another thing that was done, extraordinarily poorly, and not condemn the one thing they did well because of the other thing that was reprehensible.
But the search for moral purity in our leaders and artists is a game of status and highly Puritanical. And I don’t agree with it. It doesn’t make me less. It doesn’t make me more. It’s just a different perspective and in a world where we are supposed to be accepting of differences that’s kind of what pluralism multiculturalism and accepting diversity truly means diversity of opinion even with those we don’t agree with that’s the liberal tradition.

Right, so just say that as opposed to saying those who choose not to have a “sick tendency” and then in a later post writing an essay on being accepting of differences of opinions and perspectives.
