New Canadian Politics Thread

Moderate by CPC standards.

McKay is maybe a real moderate, but he represented the party 's left wing. That's probably their best chance at winning an election, but very out of favour among the grassroots.

New documents uncovered by the Toronto Star show that Ford and his government “cheaped” out on reopening the schools back in the summer.
I haven’t seen that content. What was the gist? What needed to be done that was missed? Aside from the gong show that reopening was, with the school staff being in the dark up to days before opening.

It's Canada, so we don't just need to spam 3000 tweets out to follow along.

GG and her main secretary resigning. Chief Justice takes over acting GG role, but presumably government will fairly quickly try to get someone into the role.

Being Governor-General is a boring, do-nothing entirely ceremonial job that's steeped in tradition, and the people who hold the job have to be OK with doing their best Elizabeth II impression and basically having no public opinions while in office. So maybe appointing a brash, driven former scientist/astronaut to the position wasn't a great idea. I guess Trudeau just fell in love with the optics of it.

And that doesn't even bring up that they must've done no due diligence on her whatsoever. Doesn't seem like they would've had to scratch too far beneath the surface to find plenty of reports about this same kind of management/behaviour at her previous job.

And here's something that's good for a laugh.

Here, we have the Premier of Alberta essentially demanding that we instigate a trade war with the newly-elected President of the United States a few days into his term, over his cancellation of Keystone XL:

Who knew that expressing patently bad idea about residential schools, and having multiple Maga supporters in your leadership group doesn't fly in Canada?

Seriously, who knew?
