What’s a snob tho? Partly, it’s someone who cares a great deal about a particular topic or series of topics… let’s say, cares enough to post on a web forum…. so ForumIce and their ilk are self selecting snob havens

Two groups of obnoxious people;

1. People to go to resorts and then come back saying “oh I’ve been to Cuba/Mexico/Jamaica, the people are so lovely, always smiling.” Not sure I actually know anyone like that, but believe me, if I meet them I will jump down their throats so fast...

2. People who have spent a few weeks in Europe and maybe one trip to Mexico “off-resort” who love to preach about how resort travel is not real travel. No fucking kidding. It’s an inexpensive, socially acceptable way to drink your face off for a week (in the presence of your children if you like) somewhere warm. It’s not a cultural experience but no one aside from the people in group 1 need to be told.

Yeah. Agree.

I mean, what we’re really talking about here are preferences. Lifting one’s nose at resorts or organized tours is absurd. They aren’t my gig, but so what? There’s no reason to have some weird sense of superiority. I mean, that’s an artifice too.

People just do whatever the they want.

Yeah, but DIY can be a real pain in the ass too. Car rentals? Ugh. It opens up possibilities that you can never have with public transportation, but it still sux bigly at times.

the weirdest thing for me is people who go to the same resort every single year. Totally understand why some folks like to get the sanitized version of a place, if the resort provides them with what they need.

but going to the same resort in the same country every time seems crazy to me.

Agreed, but I think people like familiarity, and are generally afraid of change.
