New Canadian Politics Thread

Remove it and transfer the tariff to Tesla.

It's tough for reasons I bitched about a few weeks back. Because we've done so little to future proof our manufacturing economy and are still heavily reliant on very mature industries who have shown an ability to put a factory anywhere the local population is mildly educated, about 125K Canadians have jobs in the automotive industry. Chinese EV's are like 50-80% the price of competing products, and would very quickly decimate competition, eventually driving the domestic auto manufacturing industry into the ground.

Would be great for the consumer though, BYD's are pretty fucking great from everything I've heard/read.

Judging by all the bitching on social media, the right people (that is, people on the right) are unhappy because they sense that the Trudeau hate is abating. The usual suspects are saying that Trudeau's plea for us to band together is just the covid lock down speech 2.0. They are mocking the speech as "2 weeks to flatten the tariffs".

And, of course, people like Count are posting about his upcoming trip to Florida and telling everyone that boycotting US goods is too hard and inconvenient so why bother? Just capitulate to the inevitability of a Pax Americana.
