New Canadian Politics Thread

More of this please. If the libs want to stand a chance they need to be making a shit ton of needle moving promises.... High speed rail next, massive progressive affordable housing plan, e-vehicle subsidies and infrastructure, overall mental health system. Make some damn promises!

Yeah, can't let Ford be the only one playing this game. It just appeals to way too many voters. The Liberals & NDP need to have some red meat for the 905 though, that's the real battle ground.

I just love that they're using a fucking Fordism against him. Purely populist, likely makes no policy sense, logistically challenging, but fuck it cause people will vote for it. Brilliant.

Logistically challenging is right. cut public transit revenue by 70% and what? raise taxes? Cut service? Its already a money pit.

CPC right now

This is surmountable

The big question is whether the Liberals can hold the lead on the NDP long enough to convince the anti-Ford faction to switch. If they dip and people start wondering which one is the better competition, then they'll just split and we'll be in the same place.

The key for me is Libs vs. NDP. All Del Duca has to do is succeed in being a competent human and he should gain the anti-Forders

He's done a fairly decent job so far at being like Trudeau in 2015, with a lot of new policies, some grand ideas, things to try to get people to notice him. So far I've been pleasantly surprised by what they have done.

Of course, it's still a long road, and he's not Justin. Del Duca is a politician's politician, so it's going to be hard to shake that and have people gain confidence in him. Especially since he's pretty much an unknown - I can't imagine the average person would pick him out of a lineup, and we're probably not back to full barn-storming campaigns quite yet, so he won't have as many chances to get more known.

Del Duca can’t run a safe, middle-of-the-road conservative campaign. Has to take a few big swings and risk embarrassment if he wants to turn the tide. Buck-a-ride is a decent start but it needs to get a bit more audacious and tread a bit more on Ford’s populist grievance majority.

One silver lining to how fucked everything has become is that The Beaverton has become a legitimate Canadian answer to The Onion
